Of course, I would never move there, sight unseen, without securing a job first. I have the opportunity available to me if I choose.

  1. I would love to have the opportunity to go live and work anywhere in western Europe.  Italy is a particular favorite, so I think you should seize this opportunity.

  2. i love all those things too. im italian american. ive been to italy many times. i would definetly tke it if i were you. if you dont speak italian though its questionable. so is naples. its known for being a dirty city, like a bad one. i always go there though and i love it there. italy is the greatest.

  3. I think you would love Italy, But naples is something different..

I mean, it's NOT a good place to work or live in.. everyone who tells you about the wonderful view and other stuff is right, but still south italy is a place where you can find criminality everywhere, even us italians are afraid of it..

let's say that I wouldn't recommend you any place in south Italy to go for a job or evene just vacation.. Anybody who lives in the north or center of italy would tell you so, but the choice is yours. the other italian guy from Milan told you right..in Italy, the northern the better

  4. I've been there. Yes, you would love it. Go. Immediately. Life is sweet. Much more laid back than here. At least that was my experience. Gotta love that 3 hour break every afternoon.

  5. The Villas and oceans have amazingly romantic views.  Michelangelo's artwork is painted on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in Rome, Italy.  There could be music playing anywhere in Italy.  Do you know how to speak Italian?  Do you know about Italy?  I recommend that you either become a tour guide, cook, or a waitress.  It takes more than 10 hours to get to Italy by plane.  If your flight took off on a plane from the U.S. in the afternoon, you would land in Italy the next day.  It's a very long flight.

  6. If you're offered a job in *Naples*... you're lucky! Not only because of the surroundings (apart some nasty issues with trash, during latest years, just in Naples area), but because Naples is one of the city in Italy with the highest rate of unemployment (more than 10% while national average is 5.9%; UE average is 7.1%; all up to date to October, 31), especially between younger people.

So, just be 100% sure the job is straighten out, with all the due paper, and the employer will pay you insurance, etc which in Italy MUST be paid by the employer.

  7. ok, yes Italy is beautiful, the art is to die for and the men are absolutely gorgeous.  That does not sustain you the entire time.  Living in Italy has its hardships.  Time for a reality check everyone!!

The apartments are cold.  Most everything is constructed of marble and cement and generally, there is not central heat.  We used kerosene and bombola heaters.  That is why each room has a door, even the kitchen.  That way you can put a heater in that room and warm it without trying to heat the entire house.  That reminds me, if you go that route, get a carbon monoxide detector.

Cooking gas is also provided by bombola.  There is usually someone who delivers the full bombola and picks up the empty.

Electricity is 220.  You can use transformers, but it's hard on your stuff.  I killed 3 answering machines using transformers.

Crime.  There is a lot of larceny type crimes in Italy.  When driving your purse needs to be in the trunk and keep all doors locked.  I was never afraid for my safety, but I worried about my stuff.

My apartment was on the 4th floor - no elevator.  I had thighs of steel in just a few months.  Shop like the Italians do.  Buy a few things each day.  It beats lugging eight bags of groceries up 4 flights.

The food is criminally delicious.  What I wouldn't give for a nice fresh loaf of Italian bread and some Nutella right now!!

Italian people are delightful.  Even the guy who WILL grab your butt in the market. Actually, it's not a grab, it's usually a pat.

The festivals are great.  Every feast day is so fascinating.  Carnivale is a ton of fun - get a squeaky plastic hammer so you can bonk people on the head with it.

Go with the intention of loving every minute.  You won't.  But you will really enjoy the fun times.  I'd love to go back!

  8. Italy is a beautiful place to go for those reasons . Though not many people speak english there, you will have LOADS of fun. Rome there are more english speakers...but IT IS BEAUTIFUL there.

  9. yes, certainly you will like Italy, Italy is beautiful. But in Naples, one does not find much work, pay attention before leaving wait to have a contract. Good luck

  10. I took a job in Italy and have stayed for almost 9 years now. Italy is a wonderful place to be , especially if you love the ocean, music and art. I live in northern Italy, but the area around Naples is beautiful. You'll love Capri and the Amalfi Coast and there's a lot to see and do. The area around Naples also has several music festivals with various kinds of music during the year.

It's very easy to travel via trains and budget airlines here, so there will be plenty of opportunities to visit Rome, Florence, ....

There are several on-line ex-pat sites that are good resources for researching moving to Italy; here are two to start with:

  11. I'm 17,I'm italian.. But how many of you can speak italian?? however do not accept the job in Naples, coz there's a lot of criminality, there are too many thieves, crooks and stuff like that. Believe me, come to Milan, not to the South.

  12. ahahha...lol...that's sounds funny! i'm italian and here to find a job is a "mission impossible"...in Naples is even more hard...

i don't really think you'll find a lot people offering job in the street...
