I was wondering if there are any birds that cats won't bother. Or if there was a solution to having a cat and a bird.I want a quiet bird and pretty small and that is not that expensive.

P.S my cat love to watch birds outside.

  1. I kept cats and birds for many years without incident.. Then we got a kitten. He sneaked into the birdroom(thought the door was closed)reached up while my bird was on my shoulder. Sinbad took off and the kitten snagged his side leaving a 1/4 inch hole. a dog or cat wound (scratch or bite) is considered a medical emergency as the bird have no immunity to these germs. Of course it was after hours but I managed to get my avian vet through the emergency clinic. I had washed the wound out and given Baytril which I had for another animal who was sick so I could wait until the AM.

Well the vet bill was over $150 and I had to flush the wound and administer meds twice daily for 2 weeks. Fun WOW.

It's up to you but my cats no longer are allowed near my birds.  Some cats can be trusted but it only takes one playful movement and your bird is gone.----Yogi

  2. If you want to keep a bird with a cat than you have to make sure tou keep the bird in the cage and if your cat reacts badly then i don't know if there's a solution.Always supervise a bird with a cat.i Think the only inexpensive bird is a parakeet, canary, finch, doves, pigeons, and cockatiel.

  3. Most cats that do not harm birds have been brought up to-gether when young.

But the majority are Hunters and Killers.

So take care ,what you want is a Budgie, they don't cost much and it "May" like your cat.

  4. i have a cat and i also have a bird its a kakariki i can let my bird out in the same room as my cat & the cat just watches it flying around my cats a bit docile though & i wouldn't leave them alone together just in case

  5. I have 5 cats.. and 4 of these..
