What should I get? Here are some requirements...

1) Somthing interesting. I had sea monkeys, and all they did was swim around. It wasnt very interesting. Maybe something I could train, or interact with without it getting scared.(my friends rabbit was terrified of me and ran away whenever he saw me. He wasnt much better with his owner.)

2) Not nocturnal. My hamster was nocturnal and I felt terrible waking him up during the day, and my mom doesnt really let me stay up too late

3) Good company. Something that would amuse me, which I could train. I would like something that will keep me company when I am lonely, kind of like a dog?

4) Not so much work. I dont want to sign myself up for a pet that I cant take care of, cause I will have that terrible guilt. Possibly...maybe a couple hours a week max? And preferably if I could choose one day to do the work?(week-ends). Thats the only reason I cant get a dog.

5) I would need something that either my family would learn to love in the next thre

  1. Sounds like you would be interested in some kind of snake, you only have to feed them like once  week, feed them a mouse and they can last a while. i have a friend that owns a ball python, they aren't too big.

  2. Well you said no nasty animal, and included rat in that pretense.  However rats are not nasty and very clean. Plus they are also highly trainable. The average rat can learn far more commands than the average dog.  You can cage-potty train them so when they need to go, they scurry back to their cage to use it! They learn their name, can play fetch or whatever other tricks you decide to teach it!  If properly hand raised (IE from a reputable breeder rather than a pet store) they should be too wary of humans, and thus make great companions. Their life span is that of about 3 years.

A Rat really meets all of your requirements its interesting, good company, not much work, highly trainable.  In nature rats are nocturnal but they are highly adaptive creatures and adjust to -your- schedule.  Our rats always slept at night and were out during the day when we were! Once they learn your schedule and want to be with you, you might even notice they'll wait at their cage door when they hear you get home to be let out!

  3. try a guinea pig or a ferret they live a little bit longer than you suggested but you can train both ferrets are a little work but as long as there cage is cleaned everyday they wont smell but thats most animals maybe a bird lots of different species most do sleep at night and again can be trained

  4. I would suggest a parakeet.

    1.  They do interesting things.  Like my sister's parakeet is obsessed with his bell.  He likes to perch with one foot and hold it with the other. :D

    2.  They sleep at night.  In fact, you can often trick a parakeet to think it's night by covering the cage with a cloth.

    3.  They do many amusing things.  They can be trained to sit on your finger, and some individuals can learn to talk (though I've never heard a parakeet talk very clearly).

    4.  A little food and water everyday, clean the cage once a week, and you're good.

    5.  Parakeets are generally loveable if trained properly and can live ten years or more - unless you get one that's horribly (which might last you a couple years at best).  Make sure you get one that was bred by an actual breeder - ask the pet shop where their parakeets came from.
