I've always wanted to visit Ireland, and have seriously started looking into it recently. What would you suggest as some places to visit, things to do and see? What are some good areas to stay in? Thanks!!

  1. I agree that renting a car and exploring is really the best way to see Ireland--even if you're only there for a week. A day in Dublin is recommended, but the countryside is truly amazing. The Cliffs of Moher are awe-inspiring (but you may be disappointed that fences keep you rather far from the edge of the cliffs) and I would recommend spending some time in Killarney (Muckross House in Killarney National Park is a fun and beautiful trip) and traveling in the towns around the Dingle Peninsula.

  2. Take a month, and you might see most of it. Be prepared to meander a little off the beaten track, and to talk to the locals, don't be fobbed off by the tourist places with their rip-off prices.

    But you should see:

    The Cliffs of Moher

    Bunratty Castle and Folk Park

    The Aran Islands (weather permitting)

    Galway Bar

    Connemara

    Achill Island

    Banna Strand

    the Dingle Peninsula

    Killarney and environs

    West Cork

    Cork city

    Galway city

Limerick city (for its arts scene!)

    Kilkenny city

    Waterford city and county

    Newgrange

    Clonmacnoise

    The Shannon Estuary

    The Glen of Aherlow

As for places to stay, there are plenty of options available in or near all of these places, particularly if you travel outside of the high season.

  3. Blarney Stone

  4. There is just so much to see and do in Ireland - it really depends on how much time you have!

I recommend that you rent a car and hit the open road, it really is the best way of getting around and you can get off the beaten track and really get a good glimpse of Ireland, meet the friendly Irish people, enjoy a pint of Guinness in the local pub (but don't drink and drive!) and just take in the beautiful scenery as you whizz  by...

It's really difficult to pinpoint the best places to visit as no matter where you go in Ireland you're sure to be blown away. The west of Ireland is spectacular - it's rugged, rural and in some areas they still practice the Irish language! Visit the pretty towns of Killarney, Kenmare and Dingle in County Kerry, Kinsale, Clonakilty in County Cork, oh and don't forget to kiss the Blarney Stone in Blarney (just north of Cork city!) In county Clare, the Cliffs of Moher are a must see as well as Bunratty Castle. Galway is another county which is well worth a visit - especially Galway city for shopping and nightlife!!  Take a drive out to Connemara - an area famous for its wild and remote landscape. If you love outdoor activities like horse riding, fishing, hiking or any kind of water sport then you'll be spoilt for choice in Ireland!

Dublin is a small, friendly city with plenty of opportunities for enjoying yourself! Visit top attractions like Trinity College and the Book of Kells, the Guinness Storehouse, Kilmainham Gaol, Dublin Castle and Temple Bar and that's just the start!

  5. I have been there two times. The first was for a month and we toured the entire island.

I really enjoyed bunratty and the blarney castle. Also Cork was a neat town. I would also say to go to Dublin and do the guiness tour.

The Aran island were beautiful and I still think the Cliffs of Mohr has the most beautful sunset.

If you are in for a adventure do the ring of kerry and stay in a bnb. Hope you have fun on your trip. I love it there!
