I (25) live in Uzbekistan, i would like to move to Iceland.

If I will go to study in Iceland, is it possible to get a Permanent resident after my study?

  1. To get a passport you need to be a citizen (not permanent residence). There is no law which allows PR to be given for study in Iceland. You'll be able to apply for naturalization after 7 years in the country unless:

    where a person is married to (or in a recognised union with) an Icelandic citizen, the residence requirement is reduced to three years. The Icelandic spouse must have held citizenship for 5 years, and the marriage must have subsisted for three years.

    persons in a recognised cohabitation with an Icelandic citizen, the residence period is five years, subject to the same criteria as for spouses

    one year's residence is required for former Icelandic citizens

    the residence requirement for recognised refugees is 5 years


  2. Simple answer is no. You won't get a passport just because you want or study in Iceland.
