  1. Will it be hard? That depends on you.  Your law enforcement academy will not usually transfer from state to state.  Because the laws are different depending on the state you have two options.

1: You will have to go to the Nevada academy and graduate.

2: You can challenge the academy.  You can do this with most states.  In order to challenge the academy you will have to take specific tests to show proficiency in their laws, arrest control firearms etc....

I know of a few police officers that have challenged academies and passed, but the majority usually just go through the academy.

if you go through the academy and you have the experience then you should have no problem finishing in the top of the class.

  2. It depends on how long it will be before you move.  If its not too terribly long, then apply with Metro LVPD now and get the process started.  Beware...it is a lonnnggg process to get hired with them.

  3. Start your inquiries now. Vegas does welcome experienced officers from California, especially from hard core areas like Los Angeles.  Would you also consider Northern Nevada such as Reno?  Explore your options in advance, especially if you have a family to support as we are not in the best of times economically.  Good luck to you.

  4. Las Vegas is a very dangerous place. But it shouldn't be a hard transfer, Cali is pretty much the same.

  5. Talk to the LV dept NOW...the sooner you get everything ironed out, the sooner you will be able to start. My brother transferred from Arlington V.A to Farmington NM and got everything ironed out before hand, started on the job a week after arriving in New Mexico.

Everything will be smoother the sooner you start!

  6. You cannot transfer to another department. It is called lateraling. You would need to go through the same hiring process which includes the background, med, psych, written, and possibly the physical. It will be like starting all over but your experience and history from the other department will help you out in your pay grade. Begin the process now before the move as I'm sure you know how long it can take.

  7. I have no idea but I would image you would have to retake all sorts of tests and back ground checks again. especially since it's a different state. No clue though, good luck.

  8. There is no such thing as a transfer to another state.

If you're interested in LVMPD, you need to apply with them instead of CA.

    Good Luck
