It just ran through my head today as I thought about a charity film festival I'm almost near comfirming as running, and I was wondering if I'm allowed to include films that use copywrited material if the proceeds go to charity? I know it's illegal if it's for COMMERCIAL purposes, but is this different?

  1. Until copyrighted material becomes public domain, you must have permission whether for profit use or not, at least in the US.

  2. no, copyright is copyright no matter what anyone can sue for taking their work unless you get written permission

  3. You still need written permission to use that material.
