If Islam is so backwards.....?

Why do more people in the west convert to it by their own will than any other religion in the world?

I keep seeing posts that make this claim, yet I've known no one who has converted to Islam personally.

I'm muslim. I personally know westerners who converted to Islam willingly and are more religious than anything you'd imagine. There are over 1 billion muslims in the world, most of whom actually practice their religion. I'm a 22 year old woman, and I know that my religion gives women their full rights, and I mean FULL. Muslim women were allowed to inherit, allowed to save their own money, allowed to make big choices in their lives long, (I mean like 1200 years long) before western women (see sense and sensiblity, pride and prejudice). As a woman, Islam guarantees me that I won't be used for my beauty, or my body, because of my hijab. Most muslim women CHOOSE to wear the hijab willingly because they know it is one big asset. My religion views women as precious gems, not for sale, not for anyone to enjoy. And the last words of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to his companions before he died were 'be gentle to women', he always said that women are of fragile hearts, and men should always be nice to them, and never should they be mean. The men actually have far heavier responsiblities than women, too. In short my religion guarantees me respect (if I follow it properly, not the way a lot of losers are doing now).

Islam is a way of life; it explains everything about my life; my death, my afterlife, so that I only have to worry about being a good person, and doing good deeds. It teaches me morals; without morals, there is no religion, and it reflects in the morals of Prophet Muhammad: before he knew he was prophet, his people (the same people who fought him to death afterwards) used to call him: The honest and truthful.

He never lied, never got angry for a reason concerning his own welfare, never took revenge from someone who hurt him personally, never hit a woman, never broke a promise, never backstabbed anyone.

If I wanted to know something about a particular subject; I'd go ask people who actually studied the subject (in this case, muslim converts).

During war, his orders to his companions were to not kill a child, or a woman, or an old man, to not scare a priest in his safe haven (church or temple), to not kill animals or bring down trees. His tolerance was beyond imagination. Any loser who bombs himself into anyone out of warfare is certainly not a muslim, and please read about Islam from reliable sources.

And about slaves; if anyone committed a wrongdoing in Islam, the first step to repent was to free a slave, always.

One of prophet Muhammad's best companions, Bilal, used to be a black slave freed by an other companion of the Prophet, Abu Bakr, who was a rich white man. Bilal was the first muslim ever to call for prayer (The Athan). Among the Prophet's companions was Suhaib, a roman, and Salman, a persian. Before adoption was prohibited, Prophet Muhammad adopted Zaid, who was also black.

The Prophet said that their is no difference between black and white, arab or non arab, except by how pious and righteous they are. To sum it up, my religion teaches me that racism is a hideous and unrightful, sinful act, and it taught people that almost 1400 years ago...

And you got your figures, where? Islam is still the minority religion. And no woman who knows the reality of Sharia law will willingly convert to Islam unless they've got terminally low self esteem or they're touched in the head.

I think that black people convert because they have bought the lie that Islam is "the black man's religion" while Christianity is "the white man's religion"...I've heard a great many of them say that Christianity is the religion of the white people who made them slaves. I suspect that their "immam" or whatever-you-call-it is not telling them that the "prophet" owned black slaves, and, in fact, believed and taught that the "raisin heads" were created by Allah for that purpose.

Very astute of Islam, to come to America and enlist angry blacks in their cause...

It's not hard to figure out why some guys would go for it...I mean, 72 virgins, omg...

However, in my own opinion, any woman who would willingly join such a backwards and oppressive religion is just dumb.

its not that islam is backwards because its islam. islam is backwards because religion is backwards. So in comparison to other religions, i do not believe islam is backwards. Thats my opinion; don't shoot me for it haha.

Think about it, most people studying Islam are being told that it's ok to kill your enemies where as Christianity tells us we must love, forgive and pray for our enemies.  It's much more tempting to kill your enemies and it's a much easier philosophy to adopt than to forgive someone no matter what they do to you.

I have not heard Islam is backward nor do i know of a single person who has become a muslim. But what i have learned about Muslims is there very good at twisting things around that do not suit them and there beliefs.

You should have cited your sources or basis for your claim that more in the West convert to Islam than to any other religion. Could you have counted non-practicing Muslims who returned to the practice of your religion? Which class, race or level of educational attainment is more prone to conversion to Islam? Did marriage to a Muslim play a factor in this?

At any rate, there too many factors have to be taken into account before making a satisfactory and educated answer: We can only speculate at this point.

One answer I would venture to say is the belief that people think they know sufficiently enough of the religion of their family or upbringing. This is true for many Christians I know who joined other sects or groups. In truth, they knew little about their faith and did not bother to discover more about it, taking it for granted that Christianity does not answer the questions they asked. Sad and unfortunate.

K there's a few things you need to consider here. For one there are 6 billion people on the planet. So these random stats of  tens of thousands of people converting, this means nothing. More people die in a day than that on average.

And the very statics are pretty fallible. I have read both sides, that there are more people converting to Islam, and more to Christianity. So which one is correct.

And don't forget the tens of thousands who drop religion all together. And the fact that the average person changes religion at least once in their lifetime.

I just don't buy these figures. People throw them around all day on here. I have yet to actually hear a real cited statistic with an article to back their claims.

If a million goats jump over a cliff or thousands riot together does that make them good things ever1 should do? Most of the world doesnt know Jesus or whats actually written in the Bible & so many things happen out of ignorance. Just b/c hitler cowed millions in2 following him does that mean what he did was right? Jesus, who was b4 muhammad also taught that the color of 1s skin isnt 2 b regarded. It is belief, faith in & obedience 2 Jesus that will save a man. Muhammad was just man unable 2 save any1 (he was a sinner like all humans - 1 of his biggest sins was inventing another false religion). Neither a label, title, name, time it has existed or any other association means anything beyond itself - its what is believed & practiced behind the "fronts" that make it legitimate, a lie, completely false or a fraud.

Any1 can tell us anything. 4 that reason in the Bible it warns us that we rnt 2 trust humans, not even ourselves (Jer 10:2-5,23; Is 2:22; Job 12:11; Prov 14:12; Acts 17:11). So carefully think over what I say. Dont just believe or disregard what I write. It might save u from making the same mistakes many have made, getting caught up in religious beliefs that have nothing 2 do with finding & knowing God.

Whoever seeks Jesus Christ with all his heart & soul will find Him (u shall know the truth & it will set u free). But u can lead a horse 2 water but u cant make them drink. Why should God want u 2 live with Him forever if u dont want 2 know Him (reason 4 free will)? The truth of God remains forever while things of a man dies with him, including his religions & gods made in his image. Theres everlasting hope only in Jesus Christ.

If a non-Muslim believes that Islam is a merciless religion with something to do with terrorism; a religion which does not give rights to women; a religion which contradicts science; in his limited sense that non-Muslim is correct to reject such Islam. The problem is he has a wrong picture of Islam. Islam is embraced by so many humans in all centuries because it is the Truth and it provides practical and comprehensive solutions to problems of humankind. Islam not only teaches good things but also shows practical ways of achieving that state of goodness.



Your surprise regarding many people embracing Islam is justified. Today, though Islam happens to be the fastest growing religion in the world, it also happens to be the religion about which people have maximum number of misconceptions. This is largely because of the virulent propaganda by the media about Islam.



A Christian surveyor, Professor Edward reported in the Time Magazine of April 16, 1979 that in a span of 150 years, from 1800 CE to 1950 CE “over 60,000 books have been written against Islam by the Christian West.”  Now, it is questionable, who has initiated, nurtured and collected the hatred which you have referred to, the Muslims or the Christian West?



Many are surprised that despite such propaganda being made against Islam, it still happens to be the fastest growing religion in today’s times. It is so, on the merits of its superior and noble teachings. Says Allah swt in the Glorious Qur'an:
