Question:

If Israel attacks Iran will Russia keep their word and defend Iran?

As part of the Caspian Union, Russia has vowed to defend Iran and other members in the union from attacks from nations such as Israel and the United States. Would they really keep their word and go to war with Israel?

Also how likely is it that Israel will attack Iran? Especially with Iran being so close to having a nuclear weapon and already having the missile technology to fire ICBM's into Israel and southern Europe.

Last question, what effect would this have on the world if this scenerio played out? That is if Russia waged war against Israel?

  1. Russia will defend Iran and Help to Bomb Israel

  2. Russia isn't so foolish as to risk what gains they have made for this miniscule of a  president and country. These Iranians and the one posting on here as Persian Iranian or something like that are complete and total morons.

  3. Russia defending Iran? Not a chance!

Russia and Iran had a Treaty (Torkmanchai) around 100 years ago, so Russia would help protect Iran against the British. So British came divided the country, ruled Iran for years and Russian only laughed.

Russians would help Iran just the same way the Americans helped the Shiites in Iraq overthrowing Saddam after the first gulf war. :) -- Politics and honesty / promise keeping don't mix buddy!

And historically Persians (Iranians) were protector of Jews.  Given that many of top figures in Israel are Iranian born Jews or of Iranian descends, we have not seen such an attack so far. Clearly Israelis can separate the Iranian people who predominantly hate Islam and its ideologies and the top 1% radicals who have hijack the country for over 30 years.

If Israel attacks Iran (under the white house pressure), Israelis might be safe due to their anti missile systems, however, the American soldier in Iraq will head home in body-bags. :(

Let's hope that Obama takes the oat soon.  He is cool and speaks like J.F.K and M. L. King.

I personally don't think Iran would attack anyone.

  4. It's hard to say exactly what Russia would do. A lot of people say they would do something if a certain situation arises, but you never know exactly how people react until the situation actually does arise. It's a very tricky situation. Put yourself in Israel's position. You have a neighbor with a fanatical Islamic extremists as president. He has made comments in the past that suggest he would be happy if Israel ceased to exist. He thinks that he was chosen by the hidden imam to start a confrontation against the west. And he is trying to develop a nuclear weapon. What would you do if you were in this situation? Please read link below to understand the thinking of Amadinajad and the extremist Shia Muslims

  5. It would simply depend on the situation, particularly how the US handles the situation. There is definitely a cold war going on between US & Russia.

If Russian & Chinese interests are threatened there is no doubt about it, they will aid Iran against US.

Worst case scenario, war could escalate into regional or worse world war. There are currently two positions within White House, Cheney & Co advocating that it should be US attacking Iran, as Israel can't take it out Iranian Nuclear capability on their own.

However Defense secretary Robert Gates is taking a cautious approach, fearing it can lead to a regional or world war. General Mullen (Chairman Joint Chief Of Staff) has recently stated that US does not have a capability to open up another front. More troops are required in Afghanistan.

There is deliberate misconception that Israel some how is superior to Iran. That's when even US is taking a cautious approach. Iranians have capabilities matching Israel. Hence the danger, Iran has capabilities to attack Israel within their own territory.

Iran has already threatened that if Israel/US attack Iran, Iran would attack US interests in the region. So US troops in Iraq will be attacked. OIL prices will definitely soar, and Iranians are already advocating blocking Strait of Hormuz.

  6. Tony you sound very uninformed of Iran.

Iran doesn't need Russia or any other country to protect it. Unlike Israel which needs the U.S to protect it.

any country that attacks Iran will see it's own demise, including america.

  7. Russia is in fact likely to defend their promise.

Many people don't want to acknowledge it, but there is basically another cold war going on between the US, Russia, and China.

It's likely, if Iran continues on the same path, that Israel would engage in a preemptive strike against them, to ensure their national security from a possibly Nuclear Iran.

The start of this war would possibly result in a 3rd world war, or something similar to that magnitude. It sounds kind of like one of those "worst case scenario" theories but I sincerely believe it could happen. -- The free world must be defended from governments like Iran.

EDIT to Persian (Iranian) , If Israel attacks Iran, they could turn the country into a Radioactive Desert before the Iranians could strike back. Their military capabilities are much greater than that of Iran. Iran may be considered an advanced country, but it is solely dependant on oil, up to 80% of government spending is from it. They still aren't even Nuclear Yet, and Israel has been Nuclear since the '70's.

  8. Iran feels an attack on them would be a "joke"-

  9. israel has not right to hit iran. they have not directly attacked them. israelis are chickens, just b/c a couple countries hate them they have the "right to defend themselves"

but the rest of the world would be called terrorists
