  1. Jerry Quarry beat such men as Floyd Patterson, Mac Foster, Buster Mathis, Ron Lyle and Earnie Shavers in his career.  I wouldn't bet against Quarry beating the heavyweights of today much less the cruiserweights, so yes I would without a doubt bet on him winning the cruiserweight championship if he were fighting today at his best.

  2. h**l  no.yeah he beat ron lyle, buster mathis, ernie shavers, and floyd patterson.but ernie shavers may have hit hard but did he or buster mathis ever win a title...........no floyd  patterson was old as h**l and yeah ron  was wba champ but when you think of greats do you think ron lyle.quarry lost to ali twice and frazier twice.but you have to remember in 69  he got ko'd by george chuvalo who in the h**l is that.george lost 18 fights.he couldn't even ko george scrap iron johnson who by the way was 21-25-0 with 11 ko's and was only 5'9".he went the distance with quarry twice.remember just because you fight alot of great fighters doesn't mean your amazing.h**l if i fought tyson, lewis, holyfield, klitschko brothers and got ko'd by all of them that doesn't mean i'm great that means i suck as a fighter.quarry was ko'd by ken norton,,joe frazier twice both early, ali twice both early, and george chuvalo.come on he sucked.he had lots of heart but thats it.

  3. of course !!!

  4. Quarry would be way to small framed to survive the mammoth heavyweights the division has now.

Regarding the Cruiserweights...I have to admit I think he would do good...but again he would always be the bridesmaid...never the bride. What Quarry had in heart...which in my eyes is sometimes unmatched...was only matched by his true lack of skill. He was the club fighter defined...he lived and died by his sword.

But watching guys like David Hayes last night...I dont know. Whereas boxers that were fast and hit hard were rare then, with modern advancements in exercise science..its very common now. I just think the skill level would be too much of an achilles heel..and he would would possibly rank top five...but not a champion.

  5. Today's cruisers would be bewildered by how much punishment the Irishman could take.  He took Frazier's best left hooks to the face. . . and kept coming.  His only real Achilles heel was his tendency to bleed, and that he fought during the Golden Era of heavies.  Today, I think he'd at least hold one of the recognized belts.  Good question.

Uh, "Thomas", . . . . Jerry Quarry died years ago.  Therefore, I agree with you that he wouldn't be allowed to fight today.

  6. no, he'd be too old

  7. If he was young, yes he would win. at the age that he is now, nope. the boxing counsel wouldn't allow him to fight.

  8. I sure would bet on him. Just look at his defeats. He lost to very great heavyweights. These cruiserweight today can only dream of following in the footsteps of those who defeated Quarry.

  9. It is and injustice to put Jerry QUARRY in the cruiser weight div. Jerry is a heavy weight and if he were fighting today he would be world champion he was Tommy Morrison who could take a punch great question

  10. quarry would do well at cruiser and at heavyweight in today's climate.
