Would Arizona's governor have to appoint someone to finish his term in the Senate? If so, would it have to be a Republican that she would appoint? I just don't know how this would work and I am curious.

  1. I doubt if he'll make it.  He got biopsied, had skin taken off his face to see if it is cancerous....he is of shaky health, so I doubt if he makes it---(and I hope he won't)

  2. It depends on the laws of the state.   Some states require a special election, and in others, the governor can appoint anyone they wish upon approval of the state legislature.

  3. Arizona law would provide the mechanism.  I don't live there so don't know what the law is there.

Generally speaking, most states provide that the Governor appoint someone for the remainder of his term.

But again, that's a general statement and each state is free to determine how vacancies in Congress are filled until the end of the term.

  4. there would have been an election for the arizona gov.

  5. The governor will appoint someone, anyone she wants. They will complete his current term. Then they could run on their own. She can name someone from either party, but most times they stay inside of their own party.
