Or be called a traitor? Or what would you call him? Yankees fans and Boston fans' opinions are appreciated. Add an anecdote if you would like

  1. He will be loved when he was traded to the Yankees they loved him right away

  2. If david cone came back to ny, would he be a fan favorite?

If david wells came back, would he be a fan favorite?

Well both these guys played for boston and got some pretty loud cheers when the came back to yankee stadium  on old timers day.

  3. I think the Boston fans wouldn't welcome him back but let's say he hits a walk off homerun to win a World Series, then how would the fans react?  Would he still be considered a traitor or would the fans start cheering for him again.  He was a big part of them winning the series in 2004 though.

  4. Well that would be Amazing to see to be honest with you

  5. he'd have to grow a beard first.

But he's a traitor now, we don't want him back.

  6. He is a traitor with a weak arm. He can stay in New York.

  7. Going to the rival and than back again.....uh yes!  Doug Gilmour played for the Leafs then went to the Habs, and then years later back to the Leafs

  8. He would be regarded as a traitor until he contributed, then he would be welcomed back into the fold as a long lost son who went through a difficult period where he sort of lost his way.

  9. When Damon signed with the Yankees , as I see it, he burned his bridges behind him.  He made statements like "I always wanted to be a Yankee." and never said a word about the fans who had made him their favorite player at the time, and who were lamenting their loss.  I didn't blame him for taking seriously more geld from the Yankees, but I turned on him real fast.

Even Manny knows enough to aknowledge the fans who loved having him in Boston, despite all his quirks and such.  Should the Dodgers come to Fenway in October, he would get a standing ovation in pre game intros, but not anymore after play begins.

I am sure I share feelings with a lot of red Sox Nation when I say that we judge departed players on an individual basis.

  10. He's a traitor. I doubt he'll be welcomed with open arms.

    By the way great question!
