  1. It is made up mostly of gas, but that gas gets increasingly dense as you go down in the atmosphere, eventually reaching a semi-solid then solid core.  Just as meteoroids burn up as they enter our atmosphere of gas, so do objects that enter into Jupiter's atmosphere.

  2. The pressure would blow them apart.

  3. Jupiter is not all gas. Just for scale sake, think of Jupiter as being 3 feet wide at it's equator. Jupiter would have a solid center about 1 foot in diameter.

  4. cumbustion

  5. Jupiter isn't only comprised of gas, its core is made of super heavy elements which draw in large amounts of cosmic gases (which are very dense), and compresses them at extreme pressures. The gravity of Jupiter caused the comet to split into pieces which struck the atmosphere at 60 km/sec.

Next time you are in a pool, slap the water as hard as you can, and this will help you to understand. when something hits a liquid or gaseous object, the liquid or gas compresses and can become solid, or near solid enough to cause it to create impact strikes.
