If Kronwall was a Flyer instead of a Red Wing...?

How many games would he have already been suspended because he constantly leaves his feet when throwing a body check?

*Not a fan of either team and no preference who wins.

  1. THESE ARE ALL LEGAL CHECKS YOU MORONS.

Open ice hits are always going to feature the hitter's skates somewhat being lifted off the ice.  Momentum does that.  Kronwall is not the biggest guy out there, his energy has to go somewhere.  Especially when as in Game 2, the player sort of turtled (rightfully so) to avoid him.  Unless he wants to do a sommersault over the guy, his feet will leave the ice.  When a player checks on the boards, the boards stop a player from getting airborne.   YOU NEED TO LOOK AT *WHEN* HIS FEET COME OFF THE ICE.  If it is before the hit, then it is a charge.  IF it is after the contact it is NOT.

I really don't think many players are stupid enough to leave their feet BEFORE the hit, during an open ice hit.  THAT IS SUICIDE, also if Kronwall did that, he would go flying and get deflected away like a bug.  He is not that big.  THE FORCE COMES FROM LEG DRIVE.  If you skates are off the ice for the hit, there is NO leg drive.

If i was taking an open ice hit, I would much rather get hit by a guy who has left his skates before the hit, than a guy still on the ice.  Just think about it.  The thing to look out for on open ice hits is how the player hits.  Does he lead with his elbows??  Kronwall did once against Nashville and got a penalty, rightfully so.

Its easy to try to pick apart everything the winning team does, and try to call it cheating.  Watch the games.

I just read Spaceboy's explanation, and he hit the nail on the head.  The hitter has nowhere to go if the player goes down.  That energy has to go somewhere.  The energy will get absorbed into the boards on a normal check.  An open ice hit... well he's got momentum and if you know physics (conservation of momentum), then you know he has to go somewhere if the hitter goes "through" the opponent.

  2. Like someone else said, many times his feet leave the ice AFTER contact is made.

Pause at the point of contact on the following hits:

When he lines up his hits he keeps his knees bent and pushes up right before he makes contact.  That combined with the impact of the hit causes him to leave his feet.  Im not saying he doesnt leave his feet early sometimes, but many times it just looks that way because he leaves his feet right afterwards.

  3. Cry much? What did Kronwall do, steal an imaginary girlfriend of yours? I daresay you would LOVE to have Kronwall on your team.

He leaves his feet after checks, as the poster above me's videos show.

If he was leaving his feet in the open ice BEFORE the check, he'd be whistled every time and suspended.

Oh well, I didn't expect Larry Robinson-level knowledge of the sport on this board, but to quote Larry "Welcome to the freakin' NHL".

  4. None. Do you watch the hits........if you did you would know his momentum takes him there after the initial hit.......

  5. Marcus, announcers have actually said that his hits (most of them) look worse (leaving his feet) than they really are, and it is for that reason.  He normally doesn't leave his feet before contact is made, but while it is made.  I find it funny that people are comparing him to dirty players like Pronger and anyone who plays for the Flyers.

  6. I've watched Kronwall for years now, and I still believe that 99% of his checks look worse than they are because of the way he follows through. He makes contact while still on the ice, then as the follow through he seems to lift up and even jump a bit. Weird because the contact has already been made. Also, I don't think he is good about balancing after the hit. He usually falls over them, wheich can also look like he's jumping over them.

It happens so quickly, but when you slow the tapes down, he really does a decent job of hitting cleanly...but we notice the follow through.

  7. Kronwall leaves his feet because of the impact of the check. Most of the guys announcing never got to see themselves play. Many guys who throw "clean" checks are barely touching the ice anyways. It's physics. Both guys go slightly upward during the hit, well they hit each other and the upward energy has to go somewhere.

  8. I don't think there is an agenda against the Flyers per se, but the media hype them to be the worst of the worst and I have no doubt that subconsciously, that aura works against them when a ref makes a call or Colin Campbell decides who to suspend and for how long.

The fact that you asked this question the way you did suggests that I am in some part correct.

  9. maybe im biased but after he makes contact is when he leaves his feet

  10. Zero.  You're comparing apples to semi-automatic weapons.  There isn't an anti-Flyer agenda in the NHL, there's an anti-stupidity agenda.  The Flyers' players involved with those incidents fit that agenda this year.

  11. At least 5 games, maybe more than 10 if you combine all the hits. I am shocked at some of the hits he gets away with. I just don't bring it up much because it's no use complaining about officiating. But Kronwall does hit dirty all the time, he's either leaving his feet, or has his elbows up. I don't even think he can throw a legal body check, I've never seen him do it before...

  12. hey mike i have seen one... i will see if i can find a youtube link for you

just a lil rare so may not be able to find it
