  1. That is such an implausible "if" that the question is hardly worth answering. But "if" (swallowing puke) that would have happened, he would have lost it in his next fight to whoever he got matched against. There were a lot of great fighters around in the heavyweight division back then, and Leon Spinks wasn't one of them.

  2. About 10 more minutes. Ali was shot by then, so anyone with a pulse would have came along and knocked Spinks out.

Gerrie Coetzee knocked him out in a round about a year later.

EDIT: How does this answer rate all the thumbs down? Spinks barely had a winning record at the end of his careeer.

    Opps. Sorry. Using logic again.

  3. Until Larry Holmes showed up and destroyed him

  4. but weren't he the meanest looking motherf***er you ever saw, and the heart of a lion!

  5. Not very long Zebbie. If I were Leo Spinx I'll tell you what I would do. I would retire Immediately following my victorious rematch!

With this retirement, I would forever be talked about as a LEGEND! No one would ever say I was a fluke if I conquered the "Greatest" TWICE IN A ROW!!! People would speculate for decades on how much I could have accomplished! They would have sat there in bars and taverns for generations to come and talk about the kid who beat Ali twice in one year!

Some of the more gullible folk might even speculate how I could have gone on to be the greatest heavyweight of all time!

I would have so many boxing fans bestowing upon me ICON status for a career I basically barely had."Much in the same way many gullible boxing fans have made Ike Ibeabuchi a hypothetical cult legend and unstoppable world beater for really doing nothing more than getting w's over Byrd and Tua"!

Most of all I would be able to continue to make millions on my Folk Hero status! I could travel around and make guest appearances at sports conventions. I could sign tons of items and autographs. I could get a fortune in endorsements and merchandising for the rest of my life!

All for basically winning only 2 fights in a 7 month span over an Ali that was no longer Ali!

  6. not much longer, considering heavyweights john tate, mike weaver, gerrie coetzee, ken norton, larry holmes, earnie shavers, and randall cobb were on the scene, lets not forget trevor berbick, michael dokes, greg page, and james tillis.

  7. thumbs up to afrolatinomale, leon was pushed too far up the ladder too soon............if he was progressed like michael was (not that i'm comparing the two), he might have been better prepared for the big boys, even though he would have missed ali, he might have faired slightly better.

back to your question ~ if he'd beaten ali a second time,he'd only have met gerrie coetzee, who would have still kayoed him inside a round.
