how come none could answer my question about M theory. After accusing Conservatives of being against science I asked a simple question. What is the scientific evidence for M theory?

  1. At the quantum level, there are still too many unanswered questions which cannot be resolved using pure mathematics or current physics concepts.

We are in the initial theoretical phase in which we can make conjectures and back them up with primitive mathematical proofs, but, there are too many equations which result in infinity solutions.

We need to be able to observe this particle world to a level of detail that is not currently available to us.  The particle chambers currently being built by CERN in Switzerland and France may give us more insight and allow us to tighten up the mathematical underpinnings.  But, right now, we are only pontificating about a subject that we cannot truly observe at the level we need.

As for your comments about liberals, I personally believe that intellect and science are evenly distributed through both parties.  Social issues are the dividing lines for those who choose one side or the other.

  2. I'm not a physicist.

it is my understanding that, so far, the proof for M theory is only that the mathematics work out, and that it explains some things that can't be explained otherwise - dimensionality, things like that..  I don't think this theory is near to being proven by experiment.
