If McCain is making $163,000 as a senator how can he collect $1929.75 every month in Social Security benefits?

I was under the impression that if you made more than a certain amount (like over $12,500) your social security payments were reduced. How can McCain make $163,000 as a senator and still get $1929.75 in social security benefits. The ceiling on social security benefits is around $2150 per month. What is wrong with this picture? As if he needs the money, his wife made over 6 million last year and is heir to a 100 million dollar beer company..... gees I fell badly for him even if he did donate $105,000 to charity last year -- that means he only had about $6,081,000 to live on. Poor baby

No, you're wrong. If you make over a certain amount before you're 65 they take one dollar for every two dollars made. After you're 65 you can make as much as you want to. Social security is not needs based. You put into it, you get it out.

of course he paid for it, but dont you have to RETIRE to get it? And isn't there a MANTITORY retirement at 70 yrs old?  why is it only politicians, cops and celebraties can cheat the system?

Wow! You are really full of hate for McCain, just because he is collecting the Social Security that he paid for in the first Place.

I guess that the rest of us collecting Social Security, that we also paid for, must feel some sort of guilt. Well, I don't. I paid for it all my working life, and I do believe that others, like me, feel that we deserve the amount we paid for.
