why do people get so upset over street racing. Basically it would have been street racing that made it's introduction into a legalized sport. It's also how drag racing was formed and a lot of the racing applications. Streetracing is a fact just like everything else that happens on this planet. Why do people get offended by street racings application to NASCAR?

  1. yeah, what smidge said.  and a moonshiner was much less likely to go out of control in the backwoods of hicksville, nowhere and take out a bus or a family of six.  illegal street drags, on the other hand, are dangerous not only the general public, but to the competitors as well, who are generally not very safety conscious.

my brother loved the "street drags" - he used to race competitively but he kept it on the track (well, most of the time).  he'd go down to fontana or pomona or any of a number of places up in the desert with his souped-up street rod, strap on his helmet, wait in line through safety inspection, and race.  that was cool.

when he decided to try to "street drag" with the cops on the freeway in the rain with two passengers, not so cool.  he didn't do that again, as far as i know - well, at least he didn't get caught again (i would have noticed him "gone" for six months to a year).  but he did become more involved with racing, finally working his way up to being an nhra vintage dragster racer.  good times.

so i guess i'm done answering...

  2. they don't get offended at drag racing that is put on by a major corporation,.  they get offended by KIDS racing on city streets and killing themselves.  yeah yeah, go ahead and gibve me a thumbs down.  bvut i never see the cops get angry at the gator nationals while drag racers are going over 220 or even 230.  it is the idiots doing it at 1:00 a.m. in the middle of the city that causes the problem.

  3. There is a deference between the moonshine runners and street racing. The moonshiners were more worried about being caught period, speeding or not, when they made the run.

Street racing is just dumb to me. The reason why so many don't like it, is it puts peoples lives in danger (not just the ones doing the racing) and a lot  have no regard for disturbing the peace when they do it all hours of the night down a residential area. Nothing wrong with keeping it on the track and off the streets.

  4. Because their cars sound like beefed-up weed-wackers.

Get a real car, loose the nitro c**p, and get some REAL horsepower.Racing is racing, but it is a fluke when you hit the nitro.

Those little Honda's and other pieces of cow pie, Dang, get some muscle, the older Dodges, and Chevy, the late 60's and into the 70's, fix them up and race them, loose the over powered lawnmower engines and get some American Muscle.

  5. Street racers have no regard for others. Moonshiners were doing it to make a living. Huge difference. They weren't racing.

I lost my license in 1965 drag racing on Woodward Ave north of Detroit. Began drag racing at Detroit Dragway and other strips because of it.

  6. Because street racers are worried about winning and not other driver's safety.

Moonshining was done in the backwoods away from people and had DIRT roads.
