If Native Americans ancestors came from Asia, why aren't we Asian?

I'm Native American.

They came from Asia more than 20,000 years ago.Traits change over the years,that's why we don't look fully asian.I'm native american too.

I am white but have some Native American several generations back. Have you ever noticed some Native South Americans and Central Americans often look more Asian than people like Cherokees or Mohawks? Maybe there was more mixing with white, Northern Europeans centuries ago or something. There are also theories that possibly some other cultures came to America, including some from Europe, besides the Vikings before Columbus or even very ancient northern Europeans came over during the ice age, across the frozen North Atlantic. I read something in Wikipedia. There are also theories that Natives of Australia or the South Pacific could have gotten to parts of South America thousands of years ago. They are only theories, but anthropologists do know there were people in North America earlier than it was once thought when they thought the only route was across the Bering straits.

Basically because of time and isolation. Natural selection and culture have both made enough changes to the people to be considered something different than the origin.

India is in Asia, but they don't physically look like the Asian you are thinking about. Besides, Asia encompasses many different physical traits from Russians to Indians.

Also, our ancestors came from Africa, but not all people are considered African.

There is so much value in your curiosity.  It is well worth any effort to clarify this point.  If you are Native American your genetic originality does lie in the Asian races somewhere.  For some reason your ancestors came over here.  Perhaps some day a new history will dominate reality as we have it now and histories of those times will emerge, repainting the whole panorama.
