Question:

If New Orleans gets destroyed again why can't they do like Iowa?

And just suck it up and take care of it themselves? Celebrities didn't flock to Iowa when it flooded. I didn't see telethons, or people coming to the churches everywhere to send volunteers to Iowa, I didn't see free FEMA trailers being handed out in Iowa. The people, predominately white, just bucked it up, and dealt with the blow on their own. Its been a couple of months now and no one really remembers or talks about how bad Iowa flooded. But its been 3 years and everyone still cries about New Orleans.

  1. ...you mean be more white?

There were also substantially more people affected in Nwalins (and the rest of Lousinana... and Mississippi... and...) than in Iowa, hate to tell you.

  2. not those in Iowa but don't forget the other gulf states that took care of themselves, for the most part.  they picked themselves up and rebuilt.  no celebrities helped them either that i recall.

New Orleans was unique, the state and local leaders failed their people and took too long to ask for federal help, yet the feds were blamed for not going in before asked.  it was the  LAW which has now been changed and the fed's don't have to asked.

LA now has a new Governor and the state and local leaders are apparently doing a good job of evacuated the people.  Nagin, the mayor, was re-elected by these morons.

La is well known as being the most corrupt state in the union.  that is why the levees were fixed before Katrina.

the people that were stuck there included so many criminals who went on a rampage against their own people.  that was sad and that was no the feds fault either.

when you chose to live in a place 3 feet below sea level, you can expect the sea to win ultimately.

  3. Maybe they should have been more like the white people in this video when it comes to dealing with the weather...

"Focus on the Family" needs to focus on mental health.

Why would we elect a Vice President who is endorsed and financed by this insane organization?

  4. Some of the people in New Orleans are not used to doing things for themselves. It easier to wait for someone else to do it for you.

  5. I'm sorry, why did they go back and rebuild again?

  6. Grow Corn?

  7. NO need to compare apple to organes here, but people should leave New Orleans before Gustav roars along.  Naggin get on public accouncement system tell them to leave till the hurricance storm is out of the way.  New Orleans levy test rebuild grade is coming in the next two days here, and if levy fails then local goverment should fix the levy not the federal goverment.

  8. A much smaller part of Iowa was destroyed than new Orleans - one of this countries largest cities.

You really need to look at the damages and number of displaced in each disaster.  the two do not compare.

    Katrina damage to New Orleans:

official death toll, according to the Louisiana Department of Health, was 1,464, $89.6 billion (2008 USD) dmaages

Flood damages to Iowa was $7 Billion and 0 deaths

  9. seriously, go **** yourself

  10. There's a big difference between a tornado which has very limited scope of destruction and that of a hurricane which can wipe out entire regions. That being said, there is something to be said about the "rugged individualism" of the midwestern states vs the south. A better comparison would be the response to the San Francisco earthquake in 1989.

  11. i know! i live in mississippi and we were hurt badly!!!!!!!! i mean there was nothing left at the coast when it happened. every  f*king time u turn the tv on all they talk about new orleans! wtf about miss?!!! i guess we're not important enough b/c we don't cry and help ourselves out, and we also give ourselves plenty of time to evacuate and prepare. THANKS FOR REMEMBER US!!!!!!!!!!!d**n news reporters.

  12. Well when Iowa got flooded the federal government was their on the scene and it communicated with both at the state and local levels. New Orleans state, federal, and local levels were not communicating and all were suffering.

  13. You have a good point. The damage in Iowa was not nearly the scope of deaths and damage from katrina though.
