  1. cuz the "new" makes it sound fancy , lolll

  2. There's a Zealand in Denmark, but New Zealand is actually named after Zeeland in the Netherlands. The Dutch explorer Tasman named it.

  3. Zealand is the English name for one of the Danish isles, the one which Copenhagen is located on.

  4. Zeeland is in The Netherlands.  Google or wikipedia would have answered this for you correctly in less time than yahoo answers.

  5. Zealand, I think, is the island east of the Danish mainland where I think Copenhagen is. Hmm. I kinda thought New York was named after the original York in Pennsylvania. Maybe that York's named after York, U.K.

1  New Zealand was discovered by Able Tasman who was DUTCH (from Holland). The Maori people discovered it first and called it Aotearoa, the land of the long white cloud.

2  It was named by a Dutch East India Company cartographer in Batavia (Jakarta) after Zeeland in HOLLAND. The name was later anglicised to Zealand
