If New Zealand is named after an old Zealand where is it?!?

Seriously!!! I mean if you think about it all citys,states and countrys with a "New" at the start have an old city with them.

Like New York & York

New Hampshire & Hampshire

New England & England

Anyone know of a "Zealand".....

  1. NZ was named after Zeeland, an island in the south of the Netherlands, by Abel Tasman, the Dutch captain who was the first European to see it, in 1642.  There's an island called Zealand in Denmark, but there's no connection.


  2. Zeeland is a part of Holland.  New Zealand was discovered by a Dutch explorer.
