Krushchev thought Kennedy was a punk. I doubt he would have felt the same about Nixon (I neither hate Kennedy or ignore Nixon"s fatal flaws as a man)

  1. Probably not.  Kruschev thought he could pull it off because of Kennedy's apparent weakness.  Luckily for us, Kruschev was wrong.

Nixon was much more anti-communist, and stronger-willed.

  2. I don't think it mattered who the president was.  If Krushchev wanted to place nukes in Cuba, he would have done so either way.  I doubt Nixon would have been that intimidating to the Soviets.

  3. we wouldn't be here today.

and Krushev got owned by Kennedy and didn't last long after the crisis.

  4. I suspect that Nixon would have backed Kruschev down a lot faster without all the melodrama and without giving away our missiles in Turkey.

You are correct in that Kruschebv, rightly so, had no respect for Kennedy.

  5. Yes.

  6. Perhaps not but there certainly wouldn't have been the Bay of Pigs fiasco.
