If Obama had been white do you think he would have gotten the nomination?

Especially when you consider the racially divisive things his pastor said? Do you think a white politician could have survived such racist rhetoric from his own pastor for decades and still won a major parties nomination?

  1. I think if he was a white guy his constant message about "change you can believe in" wouldn't be so persausive to many.  They wouldn't see him as the new face on the block so much.  He is using his own biracial identity to make you think "wow, this guy is really different from the rest and must be able to make change happen".  What people don't realize is that he is big talker who is short on concrete ideas and did miserably in the debates.  And besides, not all change is a good thing.  When Obama is done with America will we even recognize it or want to live here?  I think he is playing with fire and it is going to backfire big time if he is given the chance to take on the most powerful office on the planet.

  2. If he had been White, both the democrats and republicans would have nominated him like they used to do with Calif gov Earl Warren.

  3. Racism is a term often hurled around and used against caucasians.  I'm not saying there aren't any white racist or even that here aren't a lot/way too many.  But it seems hypocritical to me that whites and hispanics who vote against Obama because he is black are categorized as any different from blacks or whites who vote for him JUST because he's black.

Voting on race is wrong and that is, sadly, a great deal of  Obama's support.

  4. One sentence

John McCain and Reverend Hagee now from that John McCain is the republican nominee so take your racist question and shove it up your ***!

  5. like the divisive things mcCain's pastor has said?

Mccain sought and embraced the endorsement of Pastor John Haggee who called Catholics followers of a "great w***e" "cult" religion.

McCain's personal "Spiritual Guide" Pastor Ron Parsley says quote: ".. I believe 9/11/2001, was a generational call to arms that we can no longer ignore [to destroy islamic religion]."

McCain supports a 100 year war with Iraq to fulfill this prophecy?

If McCain is going to tout Parsley as a spiritual guide its certainly worth learning more about where HIS pastor might guide the him.

McCain sought Pastor Hagee's endorsement defended and embraced the pastor -- saying that he was "glad to have the minister's endorsement -- even after Hagee said that Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans because of the city's "sin".

So the American citizens hit by Hurricane Katrina deserved to die or have their lives washed away McCain?

On and on.......(not covered by the media)...

  6. No, Obama wouldn't have been allowed a free pass on any of his racist or terrorists buddies.

  7. No S**t.

  8. No because Oprah would not have supported his campaign so generously.

  9. Its the party of double standards.

Sure, the Republican party is no choir boy/girl.  But the Democrats have earned the title of double standards.

  10. Most likely not. Sad but true.

  11. No

  12. No. Clinton had a lock on the black vote. But he was black. Many people forget her lock on the black vote.

  13. if he had been purple, i would've voted for him either way

    obama/biden 08

  14. Haha...He wouldn't have lasted 2 days in the primaries. POTUS is not a place for an affirmitve action recipient.

  15. if he were white AND AND AND AND AND did not have the history the twisted history he has then yes.

but friends with the weather gang that set off bombs in our country

DIDN'T NOTICE that his pastor was racist and twisted.

its even worse that he says he didnt' know or hear it in 20 years of going there.

yes if he was white and NOT  A LIAR AND WRAPPED IN WITH A VERY TWISTED HISTORY i would vote for him.

  16. No way he would have come so far so fast.  Many people say the're not crazy about his policies, but are voting for him because of what it means in terms of racial healing for the country.  Too bad his administration would be a complete disaster for America.

  17. If he had been white, no one would ever have talked about what his pastor said.  White fundamentalist ministers say way more outrageous stuff than Obama's pastor said.

I think Obama would absolutely have gotten the nomination if he was white.  As gifted as he is, it would have been easier for him if he also had white privilege on his side as well.  I think he'd be running away with the race.

ETA:  I think it's important to understand that the term "racist" implies power.  So to say that a minority is racist against a majority can't be accurate.  A minority can be prejudiced, but they can't execute racism.  It annoys me to see whites throw around the term racist saying some minority is being racist toward them.  Ridiculous.

  18. Only in Zimbabwe.
