  1. King did nothing more than make speeches.  He never fought for the country or earned the right to be the only American that has ever had a holiday for him.  Not even Washington or Jefferson have holidays for their birthdays.

  2. You're the type of person who makes the Republicans look bad.

  3. Obama has already lost this election.  He should have thought twice before he divided the democratic party and called all Hillary supporters "uneducated racists".  People that burn bridges don't get elected.

EDIT, I loved those first racist answers you got.  They forced me to give you a star.  These liberal children on here make it fun and funny to post on this board.

    McCain IS our new president.

  4. Of all the things you could criticize Obama about, you choose MLK day?

Wow! You should get your head out of your ***.

  5. Are you 5?

  6. Cinco de Mayo will become a Holiday.....Also Bend Over and Spread em

  7. Hon, you need to be more worried about the prospect of an angry old man becoming the president! Even Pat Buchanan says he's a warmonger! See for yourself!

  8. Why would that happen?! Obama is not black maybe if you are ignorant you might say o look at him he is black. He is Bi- Racial he is mixed he is not black and he is not white.

Your question makes it seem like he is black or something but he isn't black.

  9. What does it matter?

  10. To answer the question: I doubt it.

    Now for the lecture:

(You're welcome for the education you are about to receive)

But why would it concern you enough to post the question?

Why would it concern anyone, everyone gets a day off work.

I wouldn't want anyone to discount my opinion so I will tell you I am not African American.

No one should anyways, but racism is still alive and sadly some would.

Also, people seem to forget he is no more black then white.

    He is 50/50.

The fact he is instantly labeled African American demonstrates to some extent we are still racist as a country.

As though he is tainted by his percentage of African American heritage he is not worthy of being called white.

African Americans rather anyone feels they have had plenty of time to heal from the past atrocities have not.

Invalidating their pain is a form of emotional abuse.

What matters is they haven't healed yet.

In reality we have African Americans who have great grandparents who endured slavery.

It has only been 143 years since slavery.

Not to mention huge prejudices long after slavery was abolished.

If one holiday in their honor will help facilitate the healing process I am all for it and would encourage it.

Black men coming back from war were told to sit in the back of the bus. If they refused to it would result in a beating of monstrous proportions.

Yes, after risking their lives defending THIS country the abuse did not stop.

And let's face it the cycle of abuse goes on through the generations.

Our grandparents taught our parents to be racist, that African American were inferior, so many of our parents were racist and hence that racism was passed to this generation.

This cycle of abuse has very little difference then child abuse.

    As an example:

I have friends who's grandparents abused their parents and their parents abused them.

Often the abuse is not as severe as generations move on, and like racism gets milder with each generation.

People who have been abused by nature tend to be less successful in their adult lives.

The thought that this would be a sore spot or area of concern, enough to post the question really points to proof the cycle of abuse has not been demolished.

I am all for giving African Americas a holiday a mandated one. Private businesses give Christmas off, most do. It is not a holiday representing the suffering anyones relatives.

Not everyone believes in Christmas yet most business give everyone a day off.

It is a good will gesture to African Americans they deserve it.

I have my own business and everyone gets Martin Luther King day off, period. Also, Cinco De Mayo why should the 4th of July be a holiday and Cinco De Mayo not.

  11. You Must Live In Alaska Cause Martin Luther King day  is already a Holiday

  12. I honestly don't understand your question.  It is already a Federal holiday.  Are you asking if the government will make private businesses observe it? If you are that is just silly.

The government doesn't have that jurisdiction.  An example of this, is banks, schools,  and government offices etc. are closed on Thanksgiving, but you can still get gas, eat at a restaurant and go to the grocery store because they are private businesses.  Today is a national holiday, (Labor day), but you can still go to Wal-Mart because it is a private business.

  13. It kind of already is.  In the state I live in, AZ (John Mccain terrtiory), it only made MLK an official holiday in order to get the super bowl.  Just goes to show you what money will make you do.  But to answer your question, I don't think they will do it just because Obama WILL get elected.

  14. Jez - another filthy racist question about Obama.

  15. Well that would be great but i am happy with MLK  birthday being a federal holiday . there is no need to change it but i do think there should be a mounment of MLK  standing up on capital hill soon to educate the young peoples in this country about races relation.

    OBAMA/BIDEN 2008

  16. There are no "mandatory" holidays.

In fact there are very few things that any government official or agency may legally mandate. Republicans and even some Democrats use that word inappropriately.

  17. I think it is already a mandatory holiday, much to the regret of John McCain, who opposed it.

  18. when is rev. wrights birthday.. most people that celebrate kings b-day are either feeding at the public troth or don't work anyway..
