I see & hear a lot of negative talk about the way african americans feel about the way whites have treated them. I'm concerned this will hurt the real issuses surrounding the 2008 elections especially, our concern is on the Iraq war & our safety here on U.S soil...

  1. It does both.  The Race discussion has been a taboo topic since the 60s early 70s.  On the one hand, we have  progressed so far in understanding the genetics that pre-determine behaviors.  We have multiple studies from reputable Universities and Government entities that better inform us on the impact of socio-economic conditions that impact our views and perceptions.

Unfortunately, American politics dumbs down these advances and exacerbates the lack of commitment to understand a very basic premise.  Skin pigmentation is not a true indicator to how a culture or group votes. It is the pattern, economics, genetics, culture and history that are the great influencers to understanding the common denominator to race. Social policy put forth and then unevenly enforced makes for contentious discussion on surface differences.  To get elected, the game is to divide and conquer; race has been the lever to win elections and the appalling silence has made matters worse.

As far as "t*t for tat "among the races.  Whenever, their is hard times people zero in on the facts of the matter for purposes of survival. When you have one family black or white that has five tours of duty to Iraq, they want to have relief.  If families are losing their source of employment and home due to hardened economic conditions...because of their struggle, I would contend they do not care about the skin color of who would help them. They just need someone who cares enough about their plight to assist.

Finally, when I was in Infantry, it did not matter if I had" red neck" or a "brotha" when we were in battle, all I cared about was if he can shoot.  Due to the economic conditions that we face in this country, race relations will improve out of necessity.

  2. It shouldn't have anything to do with race relations

  3. People are spouting off right now.

When they stop focusing on his color, there will be hope.

Try to recall when you had a friend who is different from you.  At first you are focused on the difference, and then it disappears.

Maybe Obama will make racial tension disappear.

    Have hope.

  4. If he gets elected it will hurt racial relations.

Simply put someone will kill him.

Not my point of view but with as much hate as there is in the country he will be shot.
