Would there be as many hateful attacks here?I have read some truly disgusting things being said about Sarah Palin and her family. This is truly sad and dissapointing to me.This woman has a good reputation, and is a breath of fresh air in government. She got into politics to help the people where she lives and she has.I am proud that she is the republican candidate. She is true change, unlike Biden.Does anyone else here think if Obama had picked her,it would have been wonderful for Democrats? They would not be saying the horrible things they are saying now.As a mother of three I think it is inspiring to see a mother of 5 on the road to the White House.Anyone else?

  1. This is a good question.  I'd like to respond.  As an Obama supporter I can say I am sorry that people have been so rude about Ms. Palin.  I am from the NW and I must admit that I do make jokes about her record because you simply cannot compare her to Biden or Obama and as a person who has spent time in Alaska (a State I love by the way) I am going to make fun of the moosehead alot.  I just have seen too many shots of Ms. Palin positioned as in hunting garb...? with a gun as if this is a qualification for VP.  (I am a gun toting mom too but I would not be qualified for VP)

Her experience is in a much smaller arena and she is already clouded by being involved in some administrative scandals.  Alaska has a huge problem with corruption because of the tribal lands, and oil and currently there are several key characters who are in trouble.  I do hear democrats saying she has been "better" for Alaska, but they are  also comparing her to some pretty rogue people.  Her education is very different and her path to public office quite different, and in my opinion too limited for the Office of the President.

She was mayor of a town of 9000, and then has been governor for a short time.   My perspective is that the two arenas are very different and her education is very different.

I can also say I would be opposed to her as a democratic running mate because a report from RNC said that she opposes legal abortion, and I believe stated even in the case of incest and rape and also opposes g*y rights.  While I do believe it is possible she could be a good person I would disagree with her for these reasons as well as her attitudes as an Evangelical.  I am also concerned about her position as an environmentalist dealing with drilling in protected areas in the State of Alaska.  She comes across as a newbie who is "quick to jump onboard the Bush wagon" if Alaska gets more money from the oil business.  I do not want another person in the White house who will be a puppet for the Neo-Cons and she seems quick to get onboard.

You are right however that some democrats think McCain is better than a Bush or Chaney...but that does not mean we will vote for him because we do not believe he is going to be a "Change" president.  It is going to be more of the same because it involves the "pocket book."    I believe he is going to be another puppet unless somehow he just drops everything that Bush and this administration has done for the last 8 years.   How can he run on his record then? Now he is going to change it?

I think you should look at Biden's record before you are so quick to say he is not about change!  He has been fighting on behalf of the American Constitution like a pit bull!  Many bad changes have occurred behind our backs because most Americans do not have the knowledge or inclination to understand all the legal ramifications going on.  Biden is a hero in my opinion for standing up and standing out.  Ms. Palin simply has not been in that arena.

Unfortunately many good Republicans do not believe or see what is going on as far as the American Constitution and global issues.  Palin is being compared to Clinton but people who say this do not understand how the democratic party operates or the real voting records of both these women.  We democrats (including myself who was raised Catholic) believe it is vital that abortion stay safe and legal and that we protect reproductive rights.

Many of us do not like abortion but we see the real need to keep it safe and legal.  As Obama said our goal is really to prevent unwanted pregnancies and preserve and protect young girls and women's rights in all areas.

While I agree it is inspiring to have women in politics who are mothers (because I am one.):  the Republicans have a simply appalling record with reference to helping women in this country with wage laws, children's education, and children's health.  Yes, many Republicans are against abortion...and even birth control but do not want to help these children and mothers when the kids are born.  It is very contradictory and hypocritical.   Just because Ms. Palin is a mother does not mean she understands this.  Many women like her change their tune...(and their party) when they face divorce, widowhood and find out how tough it is to raise kids alone without a spouse or significant other.  Or try to raise a child or children in a very difficult economy.

I would caution you that you really need to understand Alaska and its politics and then you might be concerned as well.  I do not think we will ever know the extent of the corruption in the Bush Administration and the War in Iraq so it concerns me to have someone who is already having to "explain themselves" as a nominee.

I can say I do admire Ms. Palin for some things as a strong woman who is taking care of a disabled child and she does seem genuinely "nice"  as an outdoors person I love Alaska and she might be fun on a fishing trip... but I would not vote

  2. The fact is that she shouldn't have been anyone's pick.

    She is not qualified.

McCain has been watching too much American Idol and believes he can pull some girly-girl out of the boondocks and turn her into an overnight sensation.

He is, as we speak, trying to bury his bad choice in Gustav, cutting the convention short to minimize the scrutiny of the ticket.

Suddenly New Orleans is the darling of the Republican party.

They could have cared less during and after Katrina.

Hypocrisy at its finest. The republicans are a REAL piece of work.

  3. i think she is best one out there, more executive experience than mccain, biden and obama . she is true to her beliefs not like obama who changes his stance,or voted present so he didn't have to make a stand. palin is someone to admire, obama is a coward who stands for anything that will get him power

  4. First off;

Obama would have NEVER picked that woman.

    I am a feminist.

I believe that women should have a greater role in our society today.

    But not that woman.

My grandmother was part of the original women's movement.

She went in and worked at a printing factory.

She made low wages, but did what she had to.

Sarah Palin undermines everything women have worked hard to get.

If McCain wins, and she becomes VP, women might as well be kicked back all the way to the basic rights to vote.

  5. He wouldn't have picked her, as she stands for everything our party and most women stand for. She is anti-birth control and anti-abortion in EVERY instance...including rape, incest, and if the life of the mother is in jeopardy.

  6. Anything Obama does is praised by his followers. Liberals, despite their claims of being tolerant, are very hateful and intolerant people. Here's some evidence.

  7. As an Obama supporter, I would have switched to McCain if Obama had chosen Palin, and that's the truth.

It would have shown me that Obama lacked good judgement, as simple as that.

    Sorry.

  8. Talk about CHANGE!

He would be Flip and she would be Flop.

They would run as the Odd Couple -- There is almost no common ground between them.

I think the country would think he has lost his mind.

But for McCain, it was a brilliant choice and what you are seeing is pure fear on the part of the Left.

But I'm sure you will see the NOW defending her and supporting her nomination because they are for strong women and eliminating the glass ceiling at the second highest office.

    Oh wait, this just in from NOW PAC Chair Kim Gandy on the Selection of Sarah Palin as John McCain's Vice Presidential Pick;

Gov. Palin may be the second woman vice-presidential candidate on a major party ticket, but she is not the right woman. Sadly, she is a woman who opposes women's rights, just like John McCain.

The fact that Palin is a mother of five who has a 4-month-old baby, a woman who is juggling work and family responsibilities, will speak to many women. But will Palin speak FOR women? Based on her record and her stated positions, the answer is clearly no.  (read full letter below)

    Maybe next time.

  9. No, they would be calling her Mary Magdalene..

  10. o come on you are seriously that upset about the attacks?  Just because Biden was so hard to attack, and all this secret muslim is he black enough garbage is all behind us, u cant take the heat yourselfs?

  11. If Obama had picked Palin Right wingers would be trashing her just like they tried to do with Biden.

  12. Oh yeah... the GOP would have made mince-meat of Palin had she been a Democratic running mate for Obama. And rightly so.

  13. I would say exactly the same thing.........he would be out of his mind.

  14. She's being attacked because she's a Christian who values life. It's that simple.

    McCain/Palin 2008!

  15. Since McCain's choice of Palin was a purely political pander to disgruntled Clinton supporters, it's highly unlikely that his tactic will be successful.  Right-wing evangelicals (redundant?) are certainly thrilled with his selection.  These are only a few of the reasons that Senator Obama would never have considered a Republican, much less one that considers creationism a science and whose views about domestic policies are to the right of Tom Delay.

  16. Well you see how all of the sudden Hillary is this wonderful loving person, when just last week, before the Nomination, she was a bi***.If we attacked Obama's kids like they are Palins, we would be booted off here.  I saw one Q about Obama's kids, and everyone, Reps, and Dems attacked that person.  Just goes to their character, and reassures my decision to leave the democratic party!!!
