  1. First of all, I do not think we even have to consider this, however, if he is, so...? In what way do you mean would we support him? I would still support his triumphant record and skill and his swimming. So.. Yes, I would support him. But he is not g*y.

  2. That's right, A g*y.

  3. Yes, I still support  him.

he is a great athlete, regardless of his sexual orient.

  4. of course. even more. they are talented. n they should be treated fairly.

  5. What does his performance in the pool have to do with his sexual orientation? I'd say it's a shame, he's so d**n handsome, but it's still fun to watch him before he gets in the pool, whether he plays for the other team or not.

  6. I say No.

    Being g*y is Wrong.

No matter how you slice it.

  7. His sexuality has absolutely nothing to do with cheering for a phenomenal athlete. I don't know whether he's g*y, straight, or bi, and I don't care. But I tip my hat to his amazing accomplishment(s).

  8. i agree with everyone else here so what if he MIGHT be g*y he is still a great swimmer

makes no difference in my mind

  9. I don't even understand why this is being asked. I would never stop supporting someone because they're g*y. It just doesn't make sense to me.

  10. No, lol :D

  11. Who cares if he's g*y? He's a great swimmer, and I don't comprehend how his sexual orientation has anything to do with that.

  12. Of course. I have nothing against g**s.

  13. Of course, duh. What difference would it make?

  14. No, but only for the reason I already don't like the whole Phelps-mania thing, he is being fawned on even though he has never paid his dues as an athlete. He is one of those very few who was lucky enough to win on nothing but raw talent. Those athletes shouldn't be oohed and aahed at, any more than a card player deserves praise for winning a hand when they're dealt all the trumps. Phelps has not had to face any real adversity.

Also because the sport where he is winning so many medals is probably the only olympic sport where such a multi-medal run is possible, because there are so many similar events spread out over the course of a week. It's no accident that the old record was held by a swimmer too. You've got 4 strokes, each at 100, 200, 400, 800, then your medleys mixing up the strokes at various distances, then finally the relays, it's the easiest sport by far to multi-medal in. Just try doing that as a long-jumper.

Here's an example of the type of athlete who ran on raw talent and was spoiled by their fame:

Johnny Weismuller: started believing he was Tarzan

Len Bias: OD'd on cocaine while celebrating being 1st NBA draft pick

Dwight Gooden: heralded as possibly best MLB pitcher ever, let it go

to his head along with too much coke

Mike Tyson: KO'd by an underdog, imprisoned, ultimately banned from boxing

That's not to say Phelps will end up like those guys, but there will come a time, in 4 or 8 years, when suddenly Phelps has to decide what he really wants to do with his life, instead of being a one-man talent show for the media. If he hasn't learned to hate his fame yet, he will then. Many born champions find they can't fit in to the real world when they retire. And Phelps doesn't seem to speak well on camera, so being color commentator isn't a likely option.

What kind of athlete does do well after retiring, well look at Lance Armstrong. He wasn't winning it all at first, and cancer nearly killed him, he had to work for it, and that gave him character to be successful in the non-sports world. I respect that kind of athlete much more. Or John Ngugi who overcame malaria to win 4 straight world cross-country titles and then win the olympics 5000 with a brilliant front-running strategy against runners with better PR's.

  15. i myself am a swimmer so i can fully enjoy a swimmer when they break the world record, or win a medal. and to me it wouldn't matter if he was g*y or not. to me its about if you are a good swimmer. if you can prove yourself worthy to the U.S.A and show you deserve the spot on the team that you have.  becaue in the end thats all that matters if your a good swimmer and you can beat other countries and yes i would most definitely still support him if he was a g*y. just as long as he is a good swimmer

  16. of course g**s are alot cooler than non g*y guys plus they go shopping with you if your a girl and are so cool to have.

  17. Even though I am sick of hearing about him.  Both on TV and in these post.  Yes, I would still support him, and or any other g*y athlete.
