Question:

If Puerto Rico becomes a republic one day ....just if...what happens to the people there that have a passport?

Will they be able to travel with no problem? I ask these, I don't know much about the goverment...but I'm curious to know 'cause I have fam. there...

  1. I'm no expert on this, but I would guess if Puerto Rico became independant there'd be no issues for a US citizen to travel there, and probably no problems for a Puerto Rican citizen to travel here.  Either would need a passport and possibly a visa for extended stays.  I also think its highly likely that the two countries would maintain a pretty liberal immigration relationship, so people there would be able to move here and vice versa being that that's pretty much how it is now, and changing that would affect a lot of people.  However, thats just my guess, and depending on what kind of government an independant Puerto Rico has could affect that.  Look at Cuba.  Lots of Americans had land and relatives there pre-Castro.


  2. PR is the only country that you can go to with out a passport.  PR's are citizens already.
