If Rafa improved his serve do you think that would be the key to winning more hard court titles?

We all no Nadal`s game on hardcourt surfaces isnt his best, his least favourite surface. I feel Rafa`s serve definitely needs improving. Why cant he hit aces ? To get more cheap points on his serve. (sounds like a stupid question) But why is it sooo difficult for him to achieve that ? His forehand and backhand are excellent, has great movement, footwork its that d**n serve lol You think Uncle Toni would be practising hard with him to improve this.

  1. play more aggressive and hit/return with depth. i still think he should bring in a serve specialist.

  2. Yes, his serve is a very weak part of his game. Last wimby he had like 1 ace compared to 25 from Fed. That's ridiculous!

However, if you see his 1st serve %, it's usually 75%+ which means he's not going all out on his first serve. He needs to take a bit more risk on that first serve. While it will bring down his % to more like 60%+, it will also earn him a lot more aces and hence free points.

well I brought up the wimby point since that's a huge difference between the 2 players. It's not like everyone has few aces against Federer. Other opponents hit several aces against Fed. Rafa has those kind of ace statistics against pretty much all players. That 1 ace of his to fed's 25 costed him wimby 2007. Even then he could have won had he broken fed atleast once when fed was 15-40 down on 2 consecutive games.

  3. nadals serve defiently good use some strengthening... defienently cheap and easy points on a serve would do good on any surface!  and his forehand also could be flattened out at times on the hardcourt...... he hits with too much topspin... i also think nadal would benefit from approaching forward more...

  4. I don't think Nadal's serve is weak per se. He might purposely go for safer serves because being aggressive is just not his game. You can't say his serve is weak just because he got 1 ace at Wimbledon. According to Wikipedia, Wimbledon is now the 3rd fastest slam because they changed to 100% rye grass.

  5. i think so.. it is the key to hard and also grass court titles...

but first, a job have to be done.. defending ALL his points in this clay court season... or else maybe djokovic be in the top 2... but hope not! go nadal!

  6. if could win more titles if he stops picking his butt
