  1. He'll definitely stick around until he gets to 300...he came this far and can still pitch pretty well so I see him hanging on....

  2. Well He Might Or Might Not !!!!!!  See The Record Is Held By Cy Young(551) So He Might Want To Try To Break It But Also So He's Old! And He Will Be Getting Arm Problems! But Randy Is A Tough Guy! I Think He Will Do One More Season With The D-Backs!

  3. Not only would the 300 wins be a milestone that he can reach with another season but there is an outside chance he could get 5000 k's!  He's at 4711 right now and if healthy could k another 70 which would put him a year and a half away from 5000!

  4. He wants it.

Johnson has shown he can still pitch effectively more often than not, so it is easy to envision him getting a contract somewhere for 2009.

    He'll get it.

  5. I think he's going to stick around until he gets to 300, and why not? It's a big milestone.

Edit: Very true, didn't think about the 5,000 K's

  6. Cy Young's record for wins is 511, not 551... in any event, no one has any shot at all at breaking THAT record.

Johnson probably cares less about the 5,000 strikeouts than he does the 300 wins.

Johnson made his major league debut 5 days short of his 25th birthday.  It's too bad he didn't have it together as a pitcher when he was 21 or 22... otherwise, he'd have flown way past both milestones by now.

He'll certainly try to eke out a 300th win.   Once he gets there, he'll probably take a look and see how close (or how far) he is from 5,000 strikeouts, and if he (and the club) thinks he's pitching well enough, he may try to hang on.

Three hundred wins, he definitely wants.  The strikeout milestone is less important.  He's already a comfortable 2nd place on the all time strikeout list, and he has no shot at catching Nolan Ryan, who's a THOUSAND strikeouts ahead of him as we speak.

Pitchers have been known to "embarrass" themselves to get a 300th win.   I can see Johnson hanging on until next season to try for that.

I don't think he'll get to 5,000 strikeouts, but you never know.  If he can possibly get there next year, he'll try for it, but I don't think he'll go into 2010.

  7. That and becuse he's old

  8. He would love to try, but the pain at times has been obvious, and he has struggled through the past few seasons hurting.  If he can, he will.

  9. I agree, I think he should and will stick around for both milestones.

  10. I don't think that he will make it 300 wins.  He won't do it this year and it is doubtful that anybody will be willing to pay him major bucks next year, so, unless he's willing to ramp down his pay an awful lot, he won't make it.

  11. He will stay around and be one of that last pitchers to reach 300 for a very long time.

  12. I think he would come back for 1 more season.
