Question:

If Rarotonga and New Zealand Maori show imagination.?

They could stay in Rarotonga for three years and get eligibility to play for Rartotonga thereby producing quite a formidable team. Although they would not have the resources and patronage afforded the All Blacks that New Zealand rugby have. They would still have access to New Zealand Maori resources and coincidently quite an extensive pool of talent on and off the field.

Something worth considering.

  1. ~ Although we would welcome an influx of talented players  the reality is those who are playing at this level of rugby in New Zealand have higher aspirations and set their sights on competitions like the Super 14, the NPC and now Club Rugby in Europe.

We are still struggling in the early qualifying stages of  IRB fixtures ~ even if we do give England and others a bit of a fright on the 7's circuit from time to time.

However if the IRB simply relaxed the eligibility laws a little we might be able to secure players who have passed their tenure at a certain level ~ such as the Aaron Mauger's ~ who then quite rightfully qualify to compete by being of Cook Islands descent.

Our hope is that those who are eligible and playing top level rugby do seriously consider their national side as a viable option and avenue to pursue.  Kia manuia!  ~

  2. never going to happen. the AB's wont go to rarotonga for 3 years when they're doing great in their own country. no chance at all in this happening

  3. Sorry I;m confused, are u saying that the maori should emmigrate to Rarotonga and stay there for three yrs so they canplay for Rarotonga? Now why would they want to do that when they can just playfor the ABs and make a shitload more money. Maybe i misunderstood ur question?
