If Russia has no plans to nuke Poland, then why is it so worried about Poland employing the necessary defense?

missiles to defend itself against such an attack? It appears that in addition to invading Georgia, Russia is now threatening Poland and The Ukraine as well. Has it become Putin's goal to overtake Eastern Europe altogether ? Seems as if one could almost argue that that is the case, wouldn't ya say...?

Because they do not believe the US when they claim the missiles are only for defense. Would the US believe that if the situation was reversed?

The problem is it disrupts the balance of Mutually Assured Destruction (M.A.D.). The only reason why the cold war didn't escalate into a real one was because both sides had nuclear warheads pointed at eachother. In fact they had enough nukes to blow themselves and the rest of the world into the stone age, or worse, wipe out everything on the planet. If one side launched then so would the other & the world would be absolutely cremated. Because of this threat, neither superpower went to war as it would mean their own guaranteed destruction. Of course if one side gains an upper hand and is able to destroy most of the others nukes before they hit their target it's going to have major implications for the other side. It may well make the world a less safe place & may even restart the cold war & propel it into a full blown one as the M.A.D. theory no longer applies. It is definitely likely to start up a new arms race!

We did nothing in the 1946-1949 time frame when the old Soviet Union expanded into eastern Europe (Poland, Czech, Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania).  Why do you think we will do anything now?

What can we do, realistically?  Do you really want to pick a fight with a country that has 10,000 nukes?

Paranoia? I think it's because Russia knows they themselves cannot be trusted, so they always assume everything everyone else does is aimed at them.

Vladimir Putin seems determined to make everyone in his enemy, destroying seventeen years of peaceful existance with the West. And then he blames NATO countries for uniting against Russia. He seems like he wants a new Cold War. Except he's probably crazy enough to push the button.

Russia for some odd reason, is assisting the crazy Muslims in Iran to obtain nuclear weapons. The interceptors in Poland are to protect Europe (and Russia) against an attack by Iranian nuclear weapons.

Those 10 interceptors would do nothing to prevent a nuclear attack by Russia itself. So this is just a case of the Russians being goofy once again.

The real question should be why does Russia want the crazy Mullahs to obtain nuclear weapons?

i personally would like to see the kremlin nuked.  End of problem, let them clean that mess up.  Just bomb the h**l outta moscow like they did in georgia.  Sure georgie tried to lay claim to what is technically theirs to begin with, but russia went into the heart of georgia.  Even after a cease fire they continue to antagonize the georgians.   Communist a - holes. Nuke em all.
