  1. Yes. That is the basic concept of a solar still used for survival at sea.


  2. Yes! What do you think you drink every time you turn on the tap (faucet)? Water evaporated from over the sea.

    When evaporation of sea water (urine or sewerage etc) occurs it is only the the water that evaporates, all the solid and disolved materials are left behind.

    Read how a wee still can help you survive in the desert whilst waiting for rescue (sounds revolting, yes, but better than dead!).

  3. The device sounds like a solar still.  

    In theory it should be distilled water, suitable for drinking or watering crops.  In practice, the water is still a bit brackish.  You cannot drink it without distilling it again or you will become more dehydrated.  I suppose if you had a more sophisticated solar still you could have suitable drinking water, but not just a single plate of glass.

    In theory, theory and practice are the same.  In practice, they are not.

  4. Yes. The evaporated water is condensed .Therefore it is suitable to drink.
