If Stockholm Open 2010: Florian Mayer reaches the second round in Sweden
The twenty nine year old Feliciano Lopez from Spain was defeated in his opening round clash at the If Stockholm Open Men’s singles competition at the hands of his German opponent, Florian Mayer in two sets on Tuesday. The final
match score was 6-2, 6-2.
World number forty seven Florian converted four of his six break point opportunities to clinch a win in fifty five minutes on Tuesday.
The right hander Mayer who turned professional back in 2001, is coming off his third round appearance at the Shanghai Rolex Masters in China, where he also thrashed out the world number nine Mikhail Youzhny in the second round.
Florian achieved his career high ranking of world number thirty three back in 2004. He inflicted his tenth opening round tour-level defeat of the year on the number thirty Lopez this Tuesday.
Meanwhile, world number twenty one Taylor Dent confirmed a spot in the second round in Sweden when Michal Pryzsiezny withdrew after losing the first set at 6-2. Taylor, as a result of this victory registered his 150th
lifetime win on the tour.
He will next take on the top seed Swiss Roger Federer in the second round in Sweden. Federer reclaimed the number two spot in the world this week after his runner up performance at the Shanghai Rolex Masters in China where Andy
Murray won his second title of the year.
In other action, Ivan Dodig, a qualifier from Croatia overcame the world number forty two Tommy Robredo in two sets to win his opening round clash at the If Stockholm Open on Tuesday. The final match score was 6-3, 6-2.
The twenty five year old Ivan is coming off his second round appearance at the year’s final Grand Slam, the United States Open in New York, where he made it into the second round after Fernando Gonzalez retired in the opening match
due to his injury.
The two time Stockholm quarter finalist Arnaud Clement on the other hand, sent packing to the last year’s runner up Olivier Rochus in two sets in his opening round. The final match score was 6-0, 6-4. He broke serve on five occasions
on his way to victory on Tuesday. The French player will take on the fourth seed Ivan Ljubicic in the next round of the tournament.
