If Stockholm Open Men’s Singles competition, Wednesday’s preview
A total of five clashes are included in today’s schedule of the play at the If Stockholm Open Men’s Singles Competition in Sweden.
In the opening match on the Centre Court, the number one Polish player, Lukasz Kubot, will take on Mattias Bachinger, a qualifier from Germany.
Kubot jumped into the top hundred on the very first occasion back in 2009 and is currently ranked number sixty-four in the World by ATP. He has so far reached the finals in Costa Do Sauipe and quarter finals in Doha as well as Casablanca in 2010. The Polish
player stands at a match record of 14-23 this season.
Mattias, on the other hand has lost the opening round in his past six ATP World Tour appearances. He is currently ranked number 275 in the World and is participating in his first main draw clash in 2010 on the tour.
Second up is the fifth seed Stanislas Wawrinka against Robin Haase from Netherlands. Robin enters with a match record of 7-9 on the season and is currently ranked number sixty-eight by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP). This is his first main
draw on the tour since the grass court Grand Slam event in London where he was bundled out by Nadal. He has not won a single title so far in 2010.
World number twenty-one Wawrinka, has won a single title in Casablanca after thrashing out Hanescu in the finals this year. He has also reached the finals in Chennai, semi finals in Belgrade as well as quarter finals in the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Rome
where he was crushed at the hands of World number one Rafael Nadal in straight sets.
Moreover, Stanislas also made his way into the quarter final round of the year’s final Grand Slam, the United States Open in New York where he was defeated at the hands of Mikhail Youzhny. The twenty-five year old Stanislas is coming off his Shanghai appearance
in China last week where he couldn’t win his second round match against Rafael Nadal.
Next up will the third seed Tomas Berdych and Jarrko Nieminen, who will meet for a spot in the quarter final round of the If Stockholm Open Men’s Singles Competition on Wednesday.
World number forty-five Nieminen has so far reached the finals at the PTT Thailand Open in Bangkok, semi final in Delray Beach and quarter final in Metz as well as Tokyo in 2010. He enters with a win loss record of 24-23 this season.
Berdych on the other hand, enjoys a match record of 43-21 and is currently ranked number six on the tour. He successfully advanced into the finals in Miami earlier in 2010 where he was thrashed out by his American opponent Andy Roddick in straight sets.
He also ended as runner up in Wimbledon to the World number one Rafael Nadal. The twenty five year old reached the semi finals in Brisbane, French Open, quarter finals in San Jose, Memphis, Indian Wells, Munich, Canada as well as Kuala Lumpur so far this year.
Berdych definitely has an upper hand on paper, triumphing in all four of their past clashes in straight sets.
In the final match of the day, Florian Mayer of Germany will play Michael Ryderstedt, a wild card entrant from Sweden on the very first occasion in his career. Mayer is currently ranked number forty-seven in the World while Michael is placed at 392 on the
tour.
The championship’s top seed, Roger Federer, who earlier this week regained his world number two spot, will play his first match on Thursday against Taylor Dent from the United States of America. It will be Roger’s 900th singles clash of his career.
