If Stockholm Open Men’s singles competition; Today’s Schedule of the Play
This season’s If Stockholm Open Men’s singles competition is led by the Swiss tennis maestro, Roger Federer who is coming off his finalist appearance at the Shanghai Rolex Masters last week in China. The twenty nine year old Federer
is playing in Stockholm on the very first occasion in ten years.
World number five, Robin Soderling is the second seed to win the title in Stockholm, followed by the third seed Tomas Berdych, fourth seed Ivan Ljubicic and fifth seed Stanislas Wawrinka.
Tomas and Soderling are attempting to earn two of the remaining spots in the season ending Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London, which is going to start from the second week of November.
In today’s schedule of the play, a total of three main draw clashes will be contested including Wawrinka, who will take on Andreas Seppi of Italy in the opening match of the day. The Swiss tennis player, Stanislas Wawrinka has
so far won a single title this season after getting the better of Hanescu in Casablanca where he has reached the finals in Chennai, semi final in Belgrade as well as quarter final in Rome. At the year’s final major, the United States Open in New York, the
twenty five year old Wawrinka was again defeated in the quarter final round by Mikhail Youzhny in straight sets. The Swiss native is currently ranked number twenty one in the world by the Association of tennis professionals. He is playing in Stockholm on the
very first occasion in his career and enjoys a 3-2 lifetime record versus the Italian.
The twenty six year old Seppi on the other hand has so far made his way into the semi final round in Umag along with a quarter final show down in Bastad in 2010. He is currently ranked number fifty in the world by ATP.
Next up is the wild card entrant from Sweden Michael Ryderstedt who will meet Daniel Gimeno Traver of Spain. The twenty five year old Michael, who turned professional back in 2002, achieved his career high ranking of world number
of 130 back in 2005 during the month of July. Daniel Gimeno Traver of Spain on the other hand, has so far won a total of five Challenger events in his career back to back in 2002, 2004 as well as 2008. Moreover, the Nules resident has also captured three Future
titles in his career. The right hander recorded his lifetime best performance in a Grand Slam earlier this season in New York, where he made it to the third round. He is currently ranked number fifty nine in the world by ATP.
In the last clash of the day, Jarkko Nieminen of Finland will face Michael Berrer from Germany. The twenty nine year old Jarkko is making his eleventh appearance in the tournament in a row. He stands at career mark of 15-10 in
Stockholm, advancing into the finals back in 2001 as well as 2006. The left hander who turned professional back in 2000 has so far reached the finals at the Thailand Open, semi final in Delray Beach and quarter final in Metz and Tokyo this season. He achieved
his career high ranking of world number thirteen back in 2006 and is currently ranked number forty six by the ATP.
Berrer on the other hand, is coming off his China Open appearance in Beijing where the German got the better of world number seven Tomas Berdych in his opening round clash in three sets before falling to Gilles Simon in the following
match. The final match score was 7-6, 4-6, 6-7.The left hander stands at a career record of 48-79 and is currently ranked number fifty in the world by ATP.
