In the very first comic book that Superman made an appearance in, he was the villain. So who was the hero in that comic then?

  1. Siegel and Shuster had tried for years to find a publisher for their Superman character (originally conceived as a newspaper strip) without success. Superman was originally a bald madman created by Siegel and Shuster who used his telepathic abilities to wreak havoc on mankind. He appeared in Siegel and Shuster's book Science Fiction.

The superman we know now was first in action comics and not evil

  2. the green goblin or batman

  3. The only connection between Big Blue, and the Mad Scientist from that original comic, are the creators and the name.

'Mad Scientist' Superman, was a one shot concept, and the characters and plot had no bearing on the Kryptonian who who has gone on to Tv, and Film  In that Comic there was just the bad guy messing with normal people.

and since Superman was really the First Comic Book Superhero, anything that came before did not have the pattern to follow.  There were stories of the likes of Zorro or The Scarlet Pimpernel that served as guides to the Comic book writers.

And for the first couple of years Superman didn't even have Lex Luthor as his Nemesis, and when he first faced him, he was a Redheaded man named Luthor (i don't recall if it was supposed to be a first or last name, but it wasn't until later that Lex was given as a first and Luthor became his last name)
