If THERE IS A 5 HORSES RUNNING IN A RACE .AM I ALLOWED DO A TRIO WITH ONLY 5 HORSES RUNNING IN THE RACE ??=)?

  1. yes, there was a race on preakness day that only had 5 horses not scratch and i bet superfecta on that race, didn't win much but still did it


  2. I thought that a trifecta could not be placed if there were fewer than 6 betting interests, but  could be wrong.

    Like in the Superfecta, you have to have 8 betting interests.

    Does that vary from track to track?

  3. I know that this is not the ideal answer, but from memory, I

    think that a 5 horse field will allow trifecta (triple) betting.

    Caution; with such a small field be carefull not to bet more

    than what the payoff might be. You could , for example, do a

    $1, 5 horse, trifecta box, for a $60 bet. You are assured a"win",

    however, the payout must be at least $120 for you to break out even! Maybe not such a good idea. Suggest that you are able to

    see what the payouts are for various combinations minutes prior to the race before betting your hard earned cash. You will need access to live racing to do this, like at an OTB

    parlor.
