  1. Taiwan should not formally split from Communist China. Taiwan should liberate Communist China and unite it as a Free Nation as Chang Kai Sheik wanted to do it.

  2. They ARE East Asian, not Southeast Asian. Also, quite a few of the Southeast Asian counttries do NOT recgonize Taiwan as an independent nation and follow the "One China" policy.

Also, China would probably never let Taiwan go, probably especially since many treasures that they deem belonging to them are in one of Taiwan's most famous museums.

  3. I believe Taiwan split from China some 40 + years ago.  I remember that, for the longest time, we (the US) were on friendly terms with Taiwan and not China.  China had always been communist under Mao Tse Tung while Taiwan tried to be democratic under Chiang Kai Chek (sp).

I don't recall hearing that the 2 nations ever merged or became friendly.

Seems I heard somewhere that China blocked Taiwan from membership into the United Nations.
