I sort of remember hearing about some team getting compensated after losing a free agent, but maybe it was another sport. Any info would be appreciated.

  1. you get draft picks depending on what type of free agent the player is. Teixeira is a class a free agent so he would bring 2 1st round draft picks to the Braves. And in the MLB you cant trade draft picks.

  2. He would be considered a class A free agent. The Braves would receive the first round pick from the team he signs with and a sandwhich pick after the first round.

  3. 2 draft picks

  4. If the Braves didn't trade Teixeira, they would have been the dumbest fools in all of baseball because last year they gave up their best prospect (C,1B - Jarrod Saltalamacchia) to Texas in exchange for Mark. This year would have ended and would have lost both of them. At least they had something in return from the trade with LAA. As long as I know, teams get one draft pick per round every year, but sometimes they trade them.

  5. I dont know but i liked him alot! especially on the braves!

  6. Yes they would have primarily a first rounder.

  7. The Braves would receive 2 picks from the team that signed him - a "sandwich" pick, or a pick in between the 1st and 2nd rounds, in addition to the team's 1st or 2nd round selection. It's the teams 1st rounder if its from picks 16-30, otherwise, the 2nd round pick is awarded, as picks 1-15 cannot be given up for compensatory purposes.
