  1. Well you're right :  Habibi حبيبى means male darling

while Habibti حبيبتى means female darling

but you already know that, right?

if you ask why in some songs, male singers refer to their loved ones as habibi (instead of habibti) and Gamil (instead of Gamila) and use the pronoun enta (instead of enti), then don't worry they still are talking about females, it's a figurative style they use in love language ( mostly in songs, sometimes in the streets but not in written script as it's grammatically incorrect!! )

  2. I asked my Arabic teacher this, and she gave some convoluted reason about how it's not culturally acceptable for men to sing about women in public or something. I don't really fall for that since I've heard plenty of quite crude lyrics that still use "habibi". I imagine the real reason is tradition, and I guess "habibi" has a nice flow to it than "habibti".

  3. Habibi has two meanings. It means my love for both male and female.

Habibti means my dear, my friend, a term of endearment which masculine is habibi too

  4. I've always asked myself this question. Why say habibi, when talking to his lady and not saying habibti?

I guess it's because habibi is a shorter word and easier to sing in their songs.

And if you listen closely you find find english songs themselves full with grammatical mistakes that an English teacher would never forgive.

  5. who the f*ck told u that....habibi means my friend/my beloved in arabic....and it's not female or male...both can use it.

  6. habibi in arabic means my lover
