I can't stand the way that in the NHL officials and the media eyes, Hasek gets all the kudos and Osgood gets all the blame when the wings do or do not win the Stanley Cup!

Hasek is never in the net when they really need him and he's always out with injuries for most of the season, yet he gets nothing but praises!

He should just give it up and retire already!

Ozzie has a much better record of winning games, is there for alot more games than Hasek ever is and is a much better player, yet he gets blamed for every loss the Wings get even when it's not his fault they lost!

I don't understand why they didn't make him the starting goalie a long time ago!

I just don't get it, do you?

  1. Both really.

They both had phenomenal seasons. Hasek faltered in the post season, but non the less, he certainly did well. They were the best 1-2 punch in the NHL all year.

Ozzie certainly deserves the post season credit, but Hasek helped get them to the post season w/ the President's trophy.

Having said that, I hope he retires this year, it's time.

  2. wow. you must not be from Detroit.

  4. Well, I think the answer is that Hasek is getting old......I think that it was a mistake for Hasek to come back in the first place.....Manny Legace was a decent goalie and I was disappointed to see him go.....Osgood and Legace could have gotten the job done this year the same as Osgood and Hasek....

Notice that Hasek did start the playoffs....but after realizing that he couldnt be depended on at this point in time, Babcock made the move and put in Ozzie, and kept him in. I expect Osgood to start game 1 of the finals, and I don't see that changing unless Babcock decides there is a reason enough to do so.

After Hasek leaves this year, we will have Osgood and a nobody. Osgood wont be around for too much longer, maybe 3 or 4 years, and we need someone to fill that gap. Legace was sufficient for that, and now that he is gone, we will have to go out and find another goalie to usher in the new school of Red Wing Hockey.

To answer the question, if the Wings win it all, then of course Osgood should get the credit. That is because Osgood would have played every game except for 2 of them. Osgood and Hasek split the regular season pretty evenly among them, each of them playing the same amount of games. It was both of them that got us to the playoffs and the President's trophy, but inevitably it is Osgood that will finish off the season with the Stanley Cup in our hands. Hopefully.

  5. Definitely Osgood. He's the reason they've come as far as they have. If Hasek was still in net who knows how many goals he would have given up. I'm not saying he's a bad goalie, he's just getting old. Credit to Ozzy!

  6. I give the credit to Osgood. If it wasn't for him the Wings wouldn't have made it even close to this far in the playoffs. Hasek "was" a good goalie in his prime, but he's past that, too injury plagued and it's time for everyone to realize he's nothing more then a decent backup goalie. It drives me nuts to hear people around here still say that Osgood hasn't proven anything to them.

I've even heard radio personel say this here in Detroit. It's ridiculous. Osgood carried the Wings on his back through most of the regular season and has stood on his head to keep the Wings in the playoffs. No doubt in my mind it's all his!!

  7. Chris Osgood

  8. osgood all the way

  9. Ozzie EASILY gets the credit! Hasek was 2-2 in the playoffs before he was pulled. Osgood is 10-2 since then and has led us to the Stanley Cup Finals!

  10. Actually they both are going to get credit.. they both are great goalies,  And in the Reg season they played osgood alot too.. both of them played all season.. But osgood is going to get more credit in the playoffs, because he is hot. and any NHL coach that doesnt play their hot players at the time are idiots. so right now.. osgood is great, and so is hasek... So i would say the credit goes to ozzie for his playoff performance.

  11. Not sure i understand this question since last year when the Wings lost to the Ducks, Hasek was in net, not Osgood. Therefore, Osgood wouldn't have gotten any blame. The year before Osgood got injured and was unable to play the rest of the playoffs, so therefore again, it shouldn't have been mainly his fault.

The only person I see who gave Hasek any kudos lately was Babcock since he's the one who started him in the playoffs over Osgood who had a good season (playing 43 games give and take) and even making the All Star game while Hasek was plagued with injuries

  12. While I agree that Osgood is usually not given quite the credit he deserves, I don't think that will be the case any longer.  I don't think he's the reason the Wings are where they are - I think they would have figured out Nashville anyway - but like many other guys on the team he has done his part.  I don't think that he'll be prevented from enjoying his day in the sun.

That being said, Hasek did his part, too.  They shared the net all year, and it worked.  That was important, because home ice might actually be the determining factor in the finals, and they got there because two goalies shared the spotlight and the workload.

Team effort all the way - but I think Ozzie will get his credit.

  13. Osgood should get the credit all the way!   Although Hasek was the starting goalie at the beginning of the playoffs, Osgood stepped in, took over, and hasn't let the Wings down since.  The man is on fire in net and he's only four wins away from another Stanley Cup victory.

I've been a fan of the Wings for over a decade now and I hated that in 98 Osgood didn't really get the credit he deserved even though he was a big part of why the Wings won the cup then too.  It ticked me off that they always compared him to Mike Vernon (who was exceptional in his own right).  If the Wings hoist the Cup for an 11th time, a large part of that is going to be because of Osgood.  He deserves the credit!
