If Tim Beats Fedor?

Question

Just a huge if, what would that do to the heavyweight division? Would Fedor vs. Randy still be a valid fight to see who is the best? Or would MMA-Math take over.

I think it wouldn't have that much of a big impat on the division...it would just show that Fedor isn't in a good condition...Fedor vs Couture would still be the true test to see who's the best...

I don't think its that big of an "if."  Fedor has been significantly lacking in quality competition as of late and Sylvia has done quite the opposite.  Sylvia presents a lot of challenges for Fedor: good striking with good takedown defense, not to mention size, reach and weight.  Fedor has to show that he is still relevant and still entitled to that #1 ranking that everyone gives him.  His last notable opponent was 2-3 years ago.  Does he still have the same explosiveness?  No one really knows.  However, I do think Fedor will likely beat Sylvia, I just don't think its impossible for Sylvia to surprise some people.  I think Sylvia beating Fedor would give Couture more notoriety and make for a public demand to see Couture vs. Nogueira.  However, I do think that there will always be the interest in Fedor vs. Couture, but for how long is the question.  Couture is not going to be fighting forever, and the longer this thing goes without the fight being signed, the less likely it is to actually occur.

I think it would be pretty huge considering everyone thinks Fedor is the top heavyweight right now.  The way people talk, it's as if Fedor can't be beat.  I still would want to see a Couture fight with Fedor, but who knows?

I think either way, win or lose, Tim will be fight Arlovski next. It's a marketable fight and they have a history. If Tim wins, I dont think it will change a whole lot for him. He's still the same style of fighter, obviously his legacy would be looked at a little different but his fights are what they are. Tim might be able to talk himself into a rematch with Couture, but I think the chance that Couture would rather fight Tim if he wins instead of Fedor regardless is slim.

If Tim wins, I think Randy would still fight Fedor, but it would lose a lot of its appeal. Randy is a fan of dollars, and regardless of the outcome on July 19th the dollars will be there for a Couture vs. Fedor match-up.

However, if Tim beats Fedor, then Randy beats Fedor, I think we could see Sylvia vs. Couture 2.
