If US airlines can't manage to survive the highprice of pilots & jetfuel, isn't it time to re-regulate them?

Rather than bail them out? And before flying experience deteriorates further! They are a form of mass transit and a necessity not an excuse for glorified profit-making for people who couldn't drive their own cars safely!

  1. Regualtion by the Government never invovled management controls. It was more geared to other factors. We are all suffering from the high cost of fuel So what would you suggest...Have the government regulate us and our automobiles since we are all finding it a bit tough these days with the high cost of energy?....Regulation had its' time and  it has been done away with. It is best left right where it is..In the aviation history books. The airline industry will right itself and that indirectly will come form you and I the passengers and carog that utilize this form of travel. It is both a liesure form of travle and in our day and age it has become a necessity as well for certain markets...

  2. Your question really doesn't make much sense. You're suggesting that regulating the airlines would somehow help them to become more profitable so they could survive? If there were regulations that would make them more profitable, don't you think the airlines would just follow them voluntarily?

  3. It should be done tomorrow.  Expect it within five years.

  4. It could come to that because of costs.Less people traveling with the sluggish economy and terroistic fear.Sad.

  5. It might be. I can recall when Braniff failed and there are some industries deregulation does not seem to work in. Electricity is another. The main problem with AMR is not fuel costs. That is big. But the current management team is worse. They can't seem to realize that taking their bonuses every year in spite of asking give backs from the ordinary employees is just poor leadership. They are saying "we are special and above sharing the pain". That does not work today. In turn morale plummets and service as well. A lot of CEO's today could benefit from a class called "Basic Leadership Techniques 101". Not just in the Airlines.....Actually I have been expecting this for years. The Republicans have had their way a long time and it is a myth they are best for defense and the economy. People talk about the 1920's and forget how they ended in.... Little "W" loves to compare the War on Terror he coined with WWII. He forgets which party was in charge in WWII. The same president pulled us out of both holes and he was not a Republican. The War on Terror is not WWII and properly fought it would already be over. It should be fought like Indian Wars were, same focus and same ruthlessness..... With the Republicans its being fought a penny for one and two for the other. Common sense alone says focus your force on your main enemy and destroy it. Don't disperse and fight in detail on the enemies terms, no matter how powerful......And yes I know they are throwing money hand over fist at it....I meant the lack of focus and common sense. They focus on Iraq, which has no real worth. Won or lost. Not on total destruction of Al Queada, the Taliban, and their supporters and making an example of all three for the Muslim world.

  6. The airline industry is the most regulated de-regulated industry in the US.  It is ridiculous.  I say YES to regulation.  A flight on SWA which would have cost $49 would then cost $490.  Customer service would be out the window because there would be no incentive to have customer service.  My salary would certainly go up if not double and I wouldn't be concerened with a on time schedule.  Regulate the industry but as soon as it happens, 3/4 of the current flying public will probably never fly again.  Something to consider....
