I will tell you what my opinion, as a russian citizen, about this matter is.

I am pretty sure that US will attack Iran in 2009, if US economy continues to drop. A little war always helps to solve minor economical problems of a country. Plus it is very important on who controls the oil in the East. Iraq and Afganistan is the battle for the oil markets and political influence.

By the way, do you really believe about this "help" for democratization of former Soviet Republics? Believe me (and you can rely on my opinon, because I am a Russian born in Estonia, who have studied in Moscow from 2001 till 2008 and now I visit my parents here in Estonia - former Soviet Republic) there is no difference between your rights in US and my rights in Moscow. For a regular citizen there is NO dictators and "KGB" regime in Russia. I do what I want, I work where I want, I say what I want and nobody cares. There are problems only for those who want to take control of the power in Russia (and do you believe that it is easy to get control over 650 million dollars per day profit from oil export in any place in the world??).

Anybody who says about oppresing and trying to not let Georgia or Ukraine become democratic countries either doesn't understand what he is talking about and just repeats news from TV or lies to you.

Georgia, for example, is the only country through which US and EU can acquire oil from Asia oil and gas production without using Russia's land. Suddenly in 2003 the "Rose" revolution happens, pro-American president of Georgia starts proclaiming democracy and wants to enter NATO immediatly. If this happens then US has a chanel for additional oil supply that Russia cannot cut if it wants to, and security of this channel will be protected with NATO army. Russia doesn't want to lose its "oil" influence on major political powers and tries not to let Georgia in NATO. Both countries are trying to get strategical advantages for decades to come. And it is so strange for me to see people who really belive that courages president Saakashvili is fighting against EVIL dictator Putin for TRUE democrasy in Georgia. Nor he, nor Yushenko in Ukraine are thinking about democratic reforms in the country. Look for the latest news in Ukraine. They cannot devide the power for 4 years already. Everybody tries to get better assets from the government and it doesn't matter what is happening in Ukraine.

Ah yes, US will surely attack Iran. Russia and China will not interfere (only diplomatic relations will suffer for some time). Iraq was bombed when there were a lot of protest, so happend to Milosevich, and this will happen till the moment when world will be divided into "sectors of influence" (US, Russia, China and whoever would have power for this)

The U.S. will not attack Iran. There is little reason for us to do so.

Israel, an ally, has a LOT of reason to attack Iran and we should not interfere with their personal responsibility to defend themselves from the threat of a nuclear attack instigated by an insane dictator.

If Russia gets involved.....THAT would be just as insane!

The Russians will most likely file a protest at the U.N.

It would mean more money from their oil reserves so I doubt if they do much more.

Iran is just as much of a pain in the neck to us as the Russians.

Let's think of it this way,US this time is only waiting  for a move  but no way  for it to attack Iran, not in their mind to promote another worldwar.US is now in time of crisis and it's goverment is focused on it's economy.So no WW3 will start at this point in time.

Russia has already warned the U.S. against it as did China. You really have to wonder what is going on that makes the U.S. h**l bent and determined to do something that not only Russia and China are against, but the majority of the world.

Conservatives have to stop blindly supporting everything the Republicans say and start asking real questions as to why things are the way they are. Stop watching Fox news and start digging for the truth before it's to late.

I bet Russia will help Iran since is an observer(in reality is a regular member) of the Organization for Shanghai Cooperation which consists of "The 3 Evil Empires"                ( Russia , China and Iran ) plus the other O.S.C. members : Cazakhstan , Kirgyzstan , Tadjikistan and Uzbekistan.

I repeat , Russia & China are members.

India , Mongolia , Pakistan & Iran are observers.(With the exception of Iran the others are not actulally evil)

They want to control the Central Asia oil & gas resourses.They wanna create a new gas OPEC to monopolize prices and  blackmail the World politics.

Russia is a non-threat.  They have no military might.  If I were going to go into Iran, I would openly state to Russia that we have no patience for them, and would nuke their largest city if they joined Iran.

started after 911...If the US attacks Iran there would not be much left of Iran to fight over as this war is going to be more destructive then the one in Iraq..more civilians will perish

No; no. Russia is one of Iran's backers, and whilst they'll fiercely oppose a war, they certainly won't go to war with the US over it. Russians aren't stupid.

I doubt very much that Russia would support Iran.  Although Russia does not support war with Iran, they do support the current American position that Iran should not create its own nuclear fuel.  

That said though, only Israel and the USA are even thinking of such action.  And I think the only reason the americans are is because Israel is threatening unilateral action.

Personally, I think it would be a huge mistake.  Iran is notoriously anti-al Quida, so to take out this threat would just replace it with another.  Also, Iran neighbours both Iraq and Afganistan, so US-led forces in these countries would be put at risk.  Also, America has, for the past couple of decades, not used unilateral war methods.  Israel would not be enough support for Americans to wage war with Iran, unless Israel strikes first, and that is unlikely without American permission.

So in conclusion, I doubt WWIII would start because of this.
