Question:

If USA had won the Gold, would anybody in the USA care how old the Chinese Gymnasts are?

The fact that a tiny country of only 400 million (the USA) competed against and nearly beat a country of 3,000 million (China) with a gymnastics machine in place is a tribute to the United States.

Why does the United States have to ruin it with sore loser allegations that ruins the spirit of the games?

  1. i think we would still care the first time when i saw the girls i cared i knew they were only 12 and that was before they even started performing

  2. because they're ignorant sore losers, and if they had won in the first place, they wouldnt care if china was underage, theyre just using it as an excuse to cheat their way to a gold medal

  3. Rules should be followed.  Sorry that's just the way things should be.  Call  us "ignorant" "arrogant" "retarted"  all you want, but we believe in fair play.   With as many articles from CHINESE newpapers about the gymnasts being under age we would be retarded NOT to question the morals of the Chinese government.  If an investigation was to happen and they were cleared then congrats to them.  But untill the FIG and IOC stop ducking the situation and hoping it'll blow over I'll be dissapointed.

  4. the girls in the single competition beat china, gold and silver

  5. No. Look at the 2007 Gymnastics team's finals.

  6. It's not sore loser allegations.  Rules are rules, plain and simple.

  7. Probably not cause as much of a furore as it is now. i'm not American but i'm angry because it's cheating. What sore allegations?? It's people who are corrupt that ruins the spirit of the games!!!!

  8. The dispute with the age of the Chinese gymnasts began before the olympics even started. It's not about being American. Actually the people that have the most to gain are the 4th place finishers. Is it the Russians? I'm not sure, and that's the point. Nobody remembers who was in 4th place, but if the Chinese get their medals stripped that would mean the 4th place finishers will now have the bronze.

I don't care if the Americans get the gold or not. It's about rules. You must follow the rules no matter how good of an athlete you are. Case in point, Marion Jones got her medals stripped several years later for steroid use, and she should have. She didn't follow the rules. Rules are rules. They are there for a reason.

  9. I didn't know that it was about being sore losers. . . frankly, I think the Chinese team deserved the gold medal based on their performance vs. the U.S. performance that night.  The U.S. gymnasts seem to have outperformed the Chinese in the all-around competition, and so the way medals were distributed there seems appropriate as well.

Of course, no allegations were very clearly raised on and before the night of the qualifying round, before we had any idea of who'd end up #1 and #2.  Wake up and quit thinking it's all because we feel like whiners.  Maybe the #2 finish sort of fuels interest in the story, but it's hardly something that wasn't being looked at by some in the media a week ago.  Wasn't it an English-language Chinese newspaper that published the story?

It's pretty well-known that corruption is an issue in China that they're still trying to figure out how to deal with.  (Heck, the West doesn't always know yet!)  Why couldn't this sort of thing extend to the Olympics?  Yes, 100% of American complaints are because we are a nation of whiny toddlers.

  10. So you are blaming the people who are pointing out the cheating, not the cheaters for "ruining" the spirit of the games.

The Olympics are supposed to be about fair, honest, above board athletic competition that transcends political trappings. When an individual or country cheats, no matter which flag they represent, they become thieves. They steal the soul of the Olympics from the world. The medals they win become meaningless. Would I still care if US had won the gold? Yes. I would be just as angry for whichever country got cheated from their rightful medal. I would be just as angry that the Olympic spirit was stolen from us all...

What you don't seem to understand is that cheaters steal from the world, not just one country...I would be even more angry if the situation were reversed and it were the Americans who cheated...

  11. I couldn't care less how many golds America gets. Cheating is cheating. This is not about China beating America. It is about breaking the rules. You don't let it go or else they will keep doing it again and again. Worse, other countries will do the same.

  12. No there won't be.  It just shows even more to the world how narrow minded the americans are.

In some events, such as the vault.. it's actually a disadvantage for the Chinese girls because it's a huge equipment for them to get over.  The vault itself is like up to their head.  Compare to the bigger Americans.. which is easier for them to maneuver on it.

No one in the world can say that there is cheating, drugs, judges which are bribed until they are proven guilty.  There is no point to point fingers to who is cheating or not.. I think all countries do it to some degree.  Especially the ones that has better resources and better financial support.  Not necessary they are taking drugs, but more advanced "supplement" for sure.

Why do ppl even bother to watch Olympics if it makes them so angry thinking another country is cheating?  Just turn off the TV.

And what is cheating?  THIS is cheating:

  13. Yes.

  14. Last time I checked, everyone has been saying it, not just the US.

ALSO, last time I checked, China had 1.3 billion people, while the U.S. had 300 million.

Isnt it ironic that you said the people that are pointing out the cheaters are ruining the spirit of the game, not the actual cheaters?

Someone (THE ASKER) is basing everything off of his opinions I see.

  15. Cuz the chinese are cheaters!!! Maybe we have some good gymnasts under the age of sixteen too. Maybe we could have won the team gold!

  16. I'm objective enough to say that it certainly wouldn't have caused the commotion that it did. But I am mostly certain that who ever came in third (if it were a straight swap between the US and China) would have been mightily upset because they were beaten by people who were ineligible.

Any "whining" is being perpetrated by the media, btw. And as far as I'm concerned Cheating ruins the spirit of the games for everyone.

  17. "The fact that a tiny country of only 400 million (the USA) competed against and nearly beat a country of 3,000 million (China) with a gymnastics machine in place is a tribute to the United States."

also would like to add that in the US we dont have athlete farms that take kids away from parents at age 3.

    going back to the q.

We would instead be saying that the team won despite going against a bunch of cheaters...

  18. Very well said.

But the US has about 300 million, and China has over 1 billion.

    The truth hurts, eh, America?

  19. First of all the only reason the USA lost, was because of errors made by the USA team.  I don’t know what media outlet people watch, but the USA media is very clear in showing that the USA team screwed up their chances on their own.

Would people care that that the Chinese are breaking clear rules, forging documents to do so, even if the USA won the gold? Yes, they would care, because knowingly breaking the rules (cheating) ruins the spirit of the games.
