  1. Vietnam might be poor & undeveloped but it offers a very good location to contain China. If US could get Vietnam (South of China), just like they get South Korea (North of China), Japan (East of China) & Afghan (West of China), they can set up another US camp & form a fence to contain China. Moreover, Vietnam has a long coastline, very useful.

  2. It was . . . . .POLITICS !!!!!!!!!!!   PURE AND SIMPLE !!!!!

  3. Because the US government wanted to stop a supposedly "domino effect" on the spread of Communism.

  4. we got into vietnam so that Kennedy could get re elected... However, because of the many mistakes he made in his 3 yrs in the white house he didn't make the 4th year.

  5. Yes it was to stop the spread the of world Communism but when it all is said and done it goes back to that one little word called FREEDOM... We believe in fighting anyone that does not allow FREEDOM when that country wants it... GOD BLESS THE USA!

oh yes, MY VOTE IS FOR MCCAIN

  6. Back in the day there was an organization called SEATO (Southeast Asia Treaty Organization) and the US was part of it.  A member country -- South Vietnam -- asked the rest of the SEATO nations for help because North Vietnam was in vading them.  The US went to their aid.  Yes, there was a lot of politcs involved, but back then it was felt that fighting the spread of communism was a worthy cause.  China is now the the biggest communist threat to the world, and they will be a lot harder to stop than North Vietnam.
