  1. water polo is pretty  confusing but the more you play the more you learn to play here is a good website that will teach you some of the rules of the game: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_polo   water polo is pretty hard if you are not in swimming shape...but if yo do water polo it will get you in shape

  2. Water polo is a sport based in the water that is similar to a basketball and soccer hybrid. There are goals like soccer, but the throwing and shooting and pace is closer to basketball. You aren't allowed to use the bottom of the pool and can only touch the ball with one hand at a time (can't catch with two hands). There are 6 field players and a goalie for each team. There are a lot of other rules that are commonly broken because the referees can't see what's going on underwater most of the time. So, it is a high contact and sometimes a violent sport.

It can be hard to play, but not many people can do it, so its pretty rewarding too.  Its not easy to learn, but most teams are supportive of new members and will help you get used to the sport.

  3. it's not really like basketball. it really isn't much like many sports out there, the closest and by a long shot would be soccer. you can only touch the ball with one hand at a time unless you're a goalie....you have to tred the entire time....plus alot more. have any more questions you can e-mail me at susan@swimsuitdiscounters.com

  4. Water Polo is a lot diffrent than any other sport you'll ever play. Having to swim at top speed heads up with the ball while having someone hang onto you (illegally might I add) is not a simple task. Practices can be long (ours range from 2 1/2 - 3 1/2 hours during the school season, not including morning practices and summer preseason conditioning) and physically and mentally exhausting, so be prepared.

  5. Well, they say it's one of the most physically demanding sports.  If you are already a good swimmer, then that's an important step.  Then you'll need to learn to eggbeater (a way to tread water that synchronized swimmers also do), and the rules of the game.  As far as the flow/rules of the game, I've heard it's similar to basketball (I never really played bball).  I was always a swimmer, and started playing water polo in high school.  It took a year or 2 before I got ok and comfortable with it - at first during a game I wouldn't want to get open because I didn't want anyone to pass me the ball!  But I got ok at it, running a team and playing co-ed even though I'm a smallish (125#) woman.  Go for it, I've had so much fun and met great friends through water polo.  Good luck!
