Is it possible for a renegade Yahoo (or any other email server) technician to do something untoward with one's email? Let's say the technician lands on the email of a well-known person, can that material end up on the Internet... is email ever really safe? What are some ways to make email really private, if that is possible? thanks!

  1. It is possible for Technicians to access your email, but legally they are not allowed to as it is against the Computer Security Act. If they do, they could lose their job and face a fine or prison.

  2. oh blimey!!  That's going to give me something else to worry about,

  3. Nothing is 100% safe but it is far safer than regular paper mail.

You can help protect yourself using PGP encryption.

  4. Somebody has to design, implement, and then maintain the databases that exist, so there are always going to be people who can legally and legitimately access confidential data. Using it for illegal purposes will eventually happen (as it already has) but maybe it won't happen to you. You can live in a vacuum, but you'll be miserable, so try not to loose sleep over this!
